In my home theater set up I use HDMI for my video from DVR to TV etc. and use the optical feed for audio since my AVR amp has only optical conn for its digital audio inputs. Recently I found that I have intermittent audio on ch101 (and often TNT) networks only, when using OPTICAL OUTPUTS. My AVR processor is a Denon AVR1802.
If I use the HDMI A/V from DVR to test the TV audio circuit & spkrs, it works fine, (but that is not decoding 5.1). Switching fiber cables and even the Denon input ports makes no difference. When using my DVD as the source everything works fine 100%. Resetting Denon CPU did not change problem.
D* units HR700 & HR721 that I tried both act same - swapped and confirmed. All other D* channels are fine too - at least all that I typically use. The D* ch 101 is a concert ch mostly and duplicates problem every time.
Problem details: 5.1/digital audio always skips out at constant rate @about 2 second on and off. Tried using optical data from the opItical pass-through on rear of TV while sending bothg a/v to TV from DVR, to see if that would get around problem but found that this output can only pass the 2 ch audio, like from its HDMI port. TV is Tosh 56MX195 DLP - just FYI.
