Should there be a separate section for sports?

  • Yes! Let's give sports it's own special section.

Seems that the DirecTV Programming and Services section is often overwhelmed with sports postings, making if difficult to see postings of a more general nature. Should a separate section be set up just for sports postings?

You're seeing a lot more sports posts now, with the NFL season starting and all the RSN shifts. But I agree, sports is a pretty high-traffic area, and much of it is exclusive to the rest of DirecTV's programming and services.

Just checked and more than half the topics on page one of the Programming section are sports related. Granted, many of them are related to the start of the NFL season, but my general observation is that a significant portion of posts in this section are about sports programming.

Mods... this indeed an idea with MERIT!!

Break out the Sports posts to a separate section so we don't have to wade thru endless posts about blackouts, cant find the game, etc etc etc. The big sports users can go right to the threads for sports to find what they're looking for and the rest of us can find what we need without wading thru the endless sports issues that result from the start of football season.

Thank you all. It is something we'll consider. In the meantime, we do have a sports programming forum if your posts are about the games themselves not the programming.

Yes, by all means add multiple sports forums & theads in the D* forums. In fact,
add as many as you wish. By doing so, it will keep your posts out of the real
Sports Programming and Events forum. :)

I think it's a good idea!

I think there are enough sports programming threads to merit their own sub-forum under the Programming and Services forum ...

There are scattered threads on the RSN subscription package, NFL ST, Superfan, MLB EI, Soccer, Cricket Ticket, etc. Having those threads in their own forum would have the benefit of letting new users browse quickly to find their topic and to use the search function more easily to weed through and find exactly what they need.

The bonus is that the main programming forum also becomes easier to search, bu moving sports-package threads to the new proposed sub-forum ...

I've always thought that all sports related topics should go under the sports programming and events section. I mean, isn't that what its there for?
I think the existing sports forum is more of a "water cooler" for sports discussions, isn't it? The proposed sports programming forum would be for discussion of sports packages from DIRECTV, concerning subscription terms, rates, etc. At least that's my understanding of it ... :)

Yes, but isn't thats why its called Sports Programming and Events? Programming to talk about the discussion of sports packages from DIRECTV, concerning subscription terms, rates etc. Events to talk about the "water cooler" things such as teams, players, and scores, etc. I'd like to have/keep it all in one forum, to make it easy to find all things about Sports. But thats just IMHO. ;) :)

Except that the existing forum is OUTSIDE of the DIRECTV forums... it's a sub-forum of the Programming and HDTV forum, which is provider-neutral. It's open to Dish, DIRECTV and even cable customers, thus it's not the best place for DIRECTV package discussions.

The description of the current Sports Programming and Events forum says only, "Sports fans gather here", which is why I tread it as a water cooler forum much like the TV Show talk forum - it's a place to talk about the sporting events that occurred (or are about to), not necessarily about the sports programming packages that DISH or DIRECTV carry. :)
