SO they are thinking of making it so you can do something in the menu while watching TV... And adding folders...

Things that Replay TV has had and Directv has had on their HR series for a while now..

Funny how they are always following others lead...

Don't hate...You know this new interface is bad ass! Look at the beautiful UI and how everything looks clean and easy to navigate. It even looks like they've intergrated NetFlix Watch Now! Sweet! DirecTV's interface is a painful experience to go through. So slow, plain looking, and ugly. This looks like a delightful experience! Hopefully TiVo uses this UI for the rumored DirecTV compatible TiVo. I'd be ecstatic!

Also, what's the big deal about ads? It's not like you have to navigate past them unless you're looking through the recommendations bar.

Tivo has had folders for many years, but their lack of PIG is a major shortcoming compared to the DirecTV DVRs.

IMHO, There can be no commercial ad content in menu/guide/anywhere associated with UI.

It's bad enough getting Directv content banners in the guide.

Not to mention the stupid programing c*&P broadcasters like SciFi run across the bottom of the screen. I ratioed(spelling?) it once and it took nearly 28% of the screen...I don't remember the exact number but it was over 6 inches up from the bottom of the screen(42" 16x9)...ungood.

No, I don't want ad content anywhere in the UI.

...at this time we've decided to reopen this thread as the subject matter is different from the press release thread. However, if the content ends up being the same, we'll likely close it again.

I suppose I'm asking for it, but what's the deal with the TiVo fanboys vs. haters in this forum?

TiVo was the pioneer in this industry and they made some quality stuff with user friendly/intuitive options. If you haven't used or owned one, don't be angry with those who have or get defensive about the HR* series. Conversely, for TiVo-philes claiming they are the greatest thing ever, realize there are pluses and minuses to both lines of DVR.

Oh btw, the GUI looks awesome! Can't wait for the new blended model. :D

The problem is there are a lot of people that accept Tivo because it is Tivo and do not see its shortcomings. In the beginning Tivos were crap, horribly slow, and other issues (remember the earlier software releases people!). Replay, Ultimate, and other DVRs were much better.

How Tivo got to be "TIVO" I have no idea, they have only turned a profit for like 2 quarters in their whole existance and while they did add some user friendly features, their DVRs do have some major short comings from a software standpoint (like how they get slow with too many season passes, and make you wait for every operation to complete).

I truly did love my Tivo, and I think they did a great thing by making a DVR very user friendly. But at the same time I see they did some things to make it non-user friendly and there are some major shortcomings with how they have done things.

If Tivo can bring together the "User Friendly" experience and the "Content Rich" programming from Direct TV, then I'm all in. The Look of this user interface would be a great marriage. Just imagine this interface being released just in time for the new Direct Tivo DVRs. I say, Skies the Limit.

Please let's not take this thread down this path of TiVo-over-anything or anything-but-TiVo... This thread should be about the proposed User Interface. If we go down the wrong path, we risk getting this thread closed again.

Anyone else think this interface looks familiar, is it Uverse or FiOS that look like this sorta? I have not personally used Uverse or FiOS so I cant remember.

It looks decent, also looks like they might have different recorded playlists for different family members, interesting touch!

I liked that as well, but what I like the most is the use of Pictures for movies and I guess other content as well. This could work well with On Demand, Premium Channels, and Pay Per View. Similar to the Netflix Interface.
