may be a dumb question, but, just thought i would throw it out there.

we had a terrible windstorm early Thursday morning. lots of damage in the area. anyway, we were without power from 4:23am (thursday) til 3:30pm Sunday afternoon.

just curious if anyone has ever had any luck getting credit from E* for the time a person was without service?

thanks (ahead of time).

Dish will not give you credit for something that is out of their control especially for such a time period. Do you try to get your milk replaced from the store you bought it from since it may have gone bad?

You might have a chance if it was Dish's fault you weren't receiving their signal (i.e. satellite or uplink center problems). But it's not their fault your power was out. One could argue that if you had a generator you'd still be able to watch your satellite tv. In fact when we had an ice storm a few years back when people's power and cable were both out due to so many lines being down I did have neighbors w/ satellite and generators and they were confortably watching tv in their homes while we tried to pass the time reading books by daylight coming through windows and heat the house w/ our gas stove! Luckily some of our neighbor's invited us in.

hey, thought it was worth a shot.

of course i know it wasn't Dish's fault, but heck, we weren't able to receive any Dish service.

we were lucky enough that our neighbor had a generator and allowed us to use a line. we were able to switch power back and forth from our refrigerator to our deep freezer in the basement.
it wasn't great, but, at least kept things cold enough.

i'm sure people not so fortunate will be tossing a lot of stuff---and, that's not good (except for the grocers) the way the prices are here.

There's always one that tries...

I have a UPS that can keep my 722 running with plenty of time to spare until I get my generator going. Oh, and the generator will also run the furnace and two refrigerators. But we can't miss those recordings. One does have to be prepared....

Not only for the reasons that have been already stated, another reason is it would be somewhat difficult for Dish to verify the validity of the power outage. Otherwise, not saying that you would necessarily do something like this, but if they gave credit for power outages, you'd have the cheapos out there calling Dish up every month (possibly multiple times every month) and reporting power outages just to get their bill deducted some, even though they hadn't gone a second without Dish. Since Dish has no way of knowing whether a power outage actually took place or not, Dish would have to take their word for it. That would be a can of worms Dish or any other provider wouldn't dare open.

I could legitimately do that every winter. Hence, the generator.

About the only things you should get the credit for is waiting for a replacement receiver, waiting for a tech to come out for a service call for signal loss/other issues, or some sort of technical difficulty such as a local channel outage or uplink center going down. That's not to say you wouldn't get it. It would depend on the individual situation and the individual rep.
