Powerline Connection Paradox

I've had my Powerline Connection setup for about 10 days. When I first plugged the units in I set the IP settings to (Linksys WRT54G router)
IP Address 192.168.1.105
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

I connected right up and everything worked OK.

Today I tested the connection and it failed to connect to the Internet.

I went to OnDemand and tried to download a program. It does download.

I downloaded 40% of a HD program, paused and watched. Its on my hard drive and plays OK.

I resumed recording and broke the ethernet connection. It stopped downloading.

I plugged the cable back into the router and it resumed downloading.

I checked the system settings and they are as listed above. This is not a DHCP connection and never has been. AFAIK these connections run at a level lower than DHCP.

However when I plugged the cable back in and checked DHCP Clients I see a client

DIRECTV-STB-DF617CE8 at
IP address 192.168.1.104
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 204.186.0.201 (The DNS of my ISP)

This is a non-working connection. If I delete from the clients list downloading continues even though the box is telling me there is no internet connection.

Can anyone explain this? Am I set up wrong?

BTW its an HR-21 box with the latest software 0x255.

Strange.

Does the Networking/Advanced Setup screen indicate the same address? How about System Information (hold the info button down for 5 seconds and scroll down)?

Are the 192.168.1.104, 192.168.1.105 addresses within the range that your router uses for DHCP? It is best for static addresses to avoid that range.

Yes, both the Networking/Advanced and the System Information show the 192.168.1.105 IP and 192.168.1.1 Gateway and DNS.

I'm beginning to think I may have a marginal voltage problem. One of my connecters won't work if there are other devices plugged into the outlet. The connecter going to the HR21 box is plugged into an outlet which has the TV, receiver and HR21 box also plugged in. I'm going to separate them tomorrow and see if that helps. This thing worked fine until today. Its also been hot here and my house voltage may be low because of the large load on the grid.

I'm still not sure why the DHCP client is being set up.

Have you tried pinging the addresses and then checking your ARP table? I would be very surprised to see 2 valid IP addresses on the same subnet with the same MAC address.
