MI 3 was my lst hd ppv.........I set it to r in advance using guide.

started playing it this morning xmas morning treat for kids and at this point it asked me if i wanted to pay...so it didnt charge me when i downloaded it? Only when im watching it the lst time? Is their any distinction between doing it this way and recording it "live" ? If i then record it on a non hd dvd player recorder.....samsung r120.....what have i downgraded the viewing to, 480p?

What are others PPV HD experiences?

happy holidasy to all

All due respect to the OP, it cracked me up to read your response, and then to see that that response was your first post in the three months since you registered!
You can record any PPV you want.

You will not be charged for it until you watch it the first time.

You may keep it and replay it as many times until the expiration. The expiration date is not displayed or known to the HR20 at this time. I have one that is almost two months old from the record time and, so far, it still works. BUT, THERE IS A EXPIREATION DATE! IT WILL GO AWAY ON PPV MOVIES, ONLY!

If you record it live, you had to purchase it. It may prompt you again to pay when watching the recording again the first time, but it will not charge you.

Merry Christmas!

Why is HD PPV a dollar more?
I noticed that as well!

Seems that the extra money charged for the HD package would cover the cost, not charge more on a already higher than a rented DVD.

C'mon D*, don't nickel and dime us to death!
It just sucks because you know when all the movies become HD, they aren't going to drop it down. Just like what happens when more channels are HD than aren't? They aren't going to get rid of the HD package fee, that's for sure.

I don't know, maybe I'm cheap, but that extra dollar made me decide to not get it. I can rent DVD's for $3 at work and they look amazing on my upconverting DVD player. I'll just have to wait till next week.
Kinda on this topic, I had an interesting PPV purchase.
I purchased Mission Impossible III online and set the HR20 to record it at 11 pm Sat. night. We started to watch it last night but had the black screen, would not play, advance, etc. I noticed it did not ask if I wanted to purchase as it usually does. I did a reset, didn't help. I made a mental note to call today and get a credit of the price so I could schedule it to record again.
I went to List this morning to watch something and noticed 2 MI III's in the List. It had recorded again 'on it's on', and when I selected Play, it asked if i wanted to purchase and it plays fine.
I don't understand why it recorded again. Did the darn box know the original recording was defective??? ;-D

No, the box has very limited intelligence.

It appears that you can't order PPV off the web and record it on the HR-20. I have not heard of a successful attempt yet. You can order it off the web and watch it all day, but if you record it, it comes up with the black screen. If you leave it on the PPV channel allnight, in the morning it will ask you to buy it with the remote as it does any other time.

I've called Directv multiple times about this and I keep getting the same answer "never heard this before". They always ask me to re-format the drive but that doesn't work either.

The system is very "buggy". Doesn't work half the time as it is supposed to. Terrible costomer service, they never seem to understand the problem.

I've never heard of software upgrades that require re-formatting the system each time. I had the Tivo from the beginning and never ONCE had to re-format the drive and lose all my season passes when new software came out.

It's terrible!
