Does anyone know if you have shows from a premium programming channel (HBO, Showtime, Playboy, etc) on your DVR and you cancel the subscription to that channel, will you still be able to watch the shows that are recorded on your DVR or do you lose 'rights' to them as well?

Yes, they will still play if you recorded them from the channel itself prior to cancelling the sub. But any VOD recordings have expiration dates.

Do people actually SUBSCRIBE to the premium channels? All you have to do is wait for another "free weekend" (which often is Friday-Monday) and load up your DVR hard drive for viewing later at your convenience!

They don't have free weekends on all the channels....like Playboy, Penthouse, etc

Of course that is one way, and it works somewhat decently for movies. But then there are other things that doesn't work so well for.

Like live boxing on Showtime and HBO, who wants to watch that after you already know who won? Well, me, but I want to watch it nearly live too!

And series. All of them have some excellent series and you can bet your bippy they won't show all episodes of them on that free weekend! :)

And to add to that, you can't record or view VOD during the free previews. The premium channels sometimes have a full season of a series in VOD, but you have to actually subscribe to watch them.

Not surprising that this is how you manage your premium channel methods of getting free movies...:nono:

I have noticed that on the free weekends, some channels, Starz especially, has crawls or snipes on screen about subscribing. This is especially irritating for those of us who are already subscribing, as it really ruins the experience. I have had to wait for the free weekend to be over to watch their programming.:(
