I used to be charged 11.99 for "NETWORK PACKAGE WITH PBS". This included the east coast DNS feeds, local package and superstations.

Now I am being charged 5.99 for locals, 5.99 for superstaions, and $1.88 for PBS national.

How did my charges go up by losing DNS???

1. Since you certainly called Dish for an explanation before asking a gaggle of strangers...what did they say?

2. What status gave you both DNS and LIL?

3. Could you specify exactly what you were receiving at each time? Such as:

before cut off - WABC, WCBS, WNBC, WFOX, LABC, LCBS, LNBC, LFOX, WPBS, WPIX, KWGN, KTLA, WWOR, WSBK

after cut off - LABC, LCBS, LNBC, LFOX, WPBS, WPIX, KWGN, KTLA, WWOR, WSBK

1) Thanks for the sarcasm. No I did not call DISH yet. I wanted to know what others had received on their bill. Certainly when you speak to DISH they give you 100% accurate information. My experience with them is that 6 phone calls will give me 6 answers.

2) I assume I was grandfathered. I have had DNS since I signed up in 1997. I got a waiver back then from each station.

3) Don't know the exact station call letters. I had the superstations package, the NY distants, and the Chico, CA local package. Now I no longer have the NY distants. Everything else seems the same.

If you had locals/distants/supers on the "old" package, it was 11.99

5.99 for 1st set (locals/diatnts/supers/etc)
8.99 for 2
11.99 for 3

At one time, they dropped that and it was 5.99 per group (so 5.99 per locals, 5.99 for Supers, etc) so you will be billed 5.99 for locals and 5.99 for Supers

Well that makes sense, but it sucks.

They continue to offer Locals + Supers for $8.99 to people that had that combo on the old package. DISH could have chosen to drop distants for those that had Local, Supers, and a distant and leave them at $8.99.

The new prices showed up in New Activity under My Account online the day after distants went dark and DISH was now charging more to not get distants than they charged when they provided distants. I immediately dropped Supers and National PBS (should be $1.50, your $1.88 likely covers more than an month). Notifying the subscriber that they would be paying more $ for fewer channels would be nice, but that isn't the DISH way.

Not easier to swallow, but keep I keep saying to myself that I've only been paying $3 for locals since they became available and had all those years of free national PBS that came with the distants.

I'm afraid you will no longer be allowed to make posts. Optimisim is not allowed. :D

Yup, I'm still getting the supers + locals grandfathered price, and it's a big reason why I haven't tried to make any changes to either the supers or the locals. It's a shame that they're making you pay more for less now. :(

Hmmm.....

This means that, in effect, E* was PAYING some subscribers to take distant nets.

Now, as regular readers of this forum are surely aware, I'm no great fan of the local network affiliates, BUT......

I have to say, in fairness to the local stations, a pricing structure such as this really should have been illegal.

Nahh ... they just were selling them at a greatly reduced rate which is no longer available.

Oh come on, James.

If dropping any given service would cause your bill to go up, you are effectively being paid to keep that service. It's just simple math.

Or was your post missing a smiley?

Oh come on, joblo.

Stop being rude. It was an old price that happened to be better than the current deal - not some scheme to make it easier for distant stations to compete for viewership against locals.

That's just your way of looking at it. I see it that it was a good deal for distants and supers, plus they were paying you to take your locals. ;) For some locals, that sounds about right to me!
