I am posting this for my brother.

He has 2 HR20-700 receivers each hooked up via hdmi to Westinghouse LCD's. He has a multi-switch upstairs in the closet. They have been working fine for over a year.

For the last few days, every night at 10pm he automatically records the news on both receivers. When he does that, both receivers have a problem receiving ESPN (206). He will be watching ESPN before 10 and it is fine. As soon as it starts recording the news, ESPN goes bad. He can tune other stations fine but there are some others that also give him a problem. He said the screen goes white fuzzy.

This is happening on both receivers so I doubt it is the receivers or the b-band converters. Could it be the mult-switch going bad?

Any help/ideas would be appreciated. He is a college football nut and this weekend starts the obsession.

I've had a similar issue with my HR20-700, it may be the dish alignment. I suddenly had many blank HD channels since some of the channels were moved to the different satellites recently, and really low signal strength on 103(c) that was caused by an install in Feb 2007 that wasn't optimized for the new sats. I fixed it somewhat by adjusting the dish, signal strength now much higher but only in the 70-80 range and all channels show up now, it is still off enough however that there are problems but only when trying to tune in 2 HD shows at once (recording one and watching other live, or recording two) - in that case I get the same symptoms your brother is having. If he's watching the news on a local HD channel while tuning to ESPN-HD as well, that could be the problem.

You can try passing the multiswitch and see if that improves signal strength: take any of the cables coming from the dish and connect them directly to either cable running to the HR20-700 using an F-to-F connector (they cost about a $1, or take one temporarily from the wall plate going to a different receiver). My Zinwell WB68 multiswitch was fine however. I'm going to further tweak the azimuth and elevation once the rain moves out of here in hopes of correcting my tuning issue.

Best of luck.

White fuzzy? Like an old analog TV with not antenna? That makes no sense at all! Are you sure he doesn't mean a solid gray screen? That would make more sense as that's usually what is displayed in the absences of being able to get a signal from the LNB. My guess is that he has a bad multiswitch or LNB. I suppose it's possible a bad BBC could be causing some "backfeed" interference. My advice would be to start removing things (receivers, multiswitch, BBC's, etc.) and test until he finds what is causing the issue.
