Thanks Edmund for the link and for the help. Here is a recap of what worked for me with my HR20 and my R15. All the credit for the following instructions goes to thekochs and again to Edmund over at RemoteCentral.com.
HR20 First:
1) Make sure your Directv remote control's MODE switch is on the DIRECTV logo
2) In the HR20 go to Menu>Settings>Setup>Remote>IR/RF
3) Select IR and proceed with the hold [MUTE]+[SELECT], then 961, then [PgDn] button selection. This will set the Directv receiver to IR
4) Go ahead on remote and hold [MUTE]+[SELECT] again, then type 00001. This puts 00001 as the code set for this remote when in the DIRECTV MODE position.
5. Turn off your HR20 before proceeding to the next step.
R15 Next:
1) MODE switch on your Directv remote is on the DIRECTV logo...power on the R15.
2) In the R15 go to the Menu>Settings>Setup>Remote>Receiver Mode. You will see either DIRECTV or AV1/AV2, click on whatever you see to reveal both at the same time. Press AV1/AV2. At this point the remote will not work so you will need to go to the R15 unit's front panel and use the arrow buttons to select [DONE] on the screen. You have now set the R15 to understand the codes that are sent from the AV1/AV2 MODE position on your remote control.
3)Now slide the MODE switch to the AV1 position on the remote control and hold the [MUTE]+[SELECT] buttons again and then type 00002. This puts 00002 as the code set for this remote when it's in the AV1 MODE postion.
Done...Now your Directv remote should control your HR20 when the MODE switch is set on the DIRECTV logo and when the MODE switch is slid over to AV1 it will control your R15. See the more detailed post of what I did above.
