I thought I has solved the "locked up with snowy screen" (actually looks like digital noise) problem by moving my Seagate 1TB HDD out of my AV cabinet so that it would run in a cooler environment, and that appeared to be the answer for over a week (no problems), but today it froze again with the snowy screen...a reset, again, cured the problem. Has anyone experienced this?? I didn't have this problem in the year or two I had the HR20-200 before going the esata route. I fear that this will happen while I am traveling and I won't be recording.
Any insights would help.

Yes. I believe you are describing the HDMI handshake problem.

Changing formats from 1080 to 480, through 720 and back to 1080 on the front panel should fix this.

From what I have seen, this does not affect recordings, and is simply a display issue.

I don't thinks it's an HDMI issue (I am familiar with this issue). When the system locks and goes "digital snowy", the screen will blink when I issue commands from the remote, but will not play or display anything until after a reboot. If I disconnect the HDMI, the display (pioneer elite pro151fd) just goes blank.
Like I said, the problem has only developed since adding the esata HDD. Also, the HR20 DOES NOT record while in this locked-up mode. The 480,720 and 1080 buttons will not respond during the lock-up either.
Thanks ....
