What happens if you don't hit power on the remote before you try to turn on the HR21?
I really haven't waited for anything beyond one minute, I just go to the box and press the button.Stuart Sweet said:What happens if you don't hit power on the remote before you try to turn on the HR21?
Does anyone have the same problem as me?ysiamrich said:I know this isn't help but I have been having the similar issues on the latest national release with powering up with my harmony remote. I can turn it on via remote though but it takes a few times. I use a H659.
Just thought it was something wrong with the harmony remote maybe not. I have also been having issues with missed recording and came here to log those on the missed recordings thread.
Mine works fine with a Harmony 880.rob316 said:Does anyone have the same problem as me?
I don't think it's the Harmony I think it's the box itself it seems that after it records my shows and turns recording off it won't power back on with the remote unless you click on the remote wait at least a minute then press the power on the box then it comes on.azarby said:Mine works fine with a Harmony 880.

I actually unplugged the wireless ethernet bridge I had the HR21 connected to and did a full rest and guess what IT TURNED ON WITH NO PROBLEM. I have been reading about possible network issues with these boxes so far so good, when I go home tonight I will turn on the box and if turns on it was the network adapter causing the issue.rudeney said:A few things I'd try…
First of all, do a menu-reset. That can clear up a lot of problems. Also, if you have it connected to your home network, then disconnect it as that has been known to create some lockups due to UPnP not being configured the router. Finally, make sure all signal strengths are good on both tuners and you aren't having any BBC issues. The HR2x's can act flaky when they don't get good signals.
If all of those items check out and nothing helps, then let's rule out the remote. Next time, do not even tough the remote - walk over to the HR21 and press the power button on the front panel. If that works, then it's a remote issue. If not, then it's something wrong with the receiver and you need to call D*.
If the HR21 does come on immediately when pressing the front panel button, then we need to rule out the Harmony. Next time try using the D* remote instead of the Harmony to see if that makes a difference. If so, then it's in the Harmony remote. You may want to try to re-program/re-learn the HR21 codes in it.
If the D* remote does not work, then try using RF instead of IR to rule out an IR receiver issue. You'll have to reprogram the HR21 and the D* remote for RF before trying it next time. Note that the HR21 can't talk IR and RF simultaneously so the Harmony won't work while you do this test. If it's still an issue in RF mode, then you need to call D*.
EDIT FOR ADDITONAL THOUGHTS:
Oh yeah, and a few more things if nothing else works - maybe try forcing a software download. Also, as a last resort, try a "full" reset. You'll lose everything, but it reformats the hard drive. This could be a sign of failed drive, so maybe that would shed some light.

Did you try using RF instead of IR to see if it's an IR reception issue? Note that the HR2x's IR receiver is known to be overly sensitive, and things like compact fluorescent (i.e. Al Gore) bulbs can spew out random IR that might confuse it. Using the D* remote in RF mode would help eliminate (or possibly confirm) that as being the problem.rob316 said:Update
Went home last night try turning on the TV and HR21-700, TV came on but the 700did notI waited at least 5 minutes to see if the box came on by itself it did not had to press power button on HR21 and it turned on. There are no scheduled recordings today or tommorow we will see if it turns on. Again this seems to happen after my shows I record from 1pm to 5pm during week. This is my second box with the same issue my first box was a brand new HR21-100. I may call Direct TV gain to get anew box.
Well I called DirectTV and reported the problem, they had me do a complete reset which I did, they said this would format the drive again and wipe everything out which it did. I rescheduled the recording for my wife from 1pm to 5pm with no problem. Came home yesterday evening and damnit samething HR-21 would not turn on via remote using the DTV or my Harmony. So I called DTV back and they are sending me another HD-DVR. I asked what happens if the third replacement does the samething she said that they would open a case up about the problem and start from there. Hopefully 3rd time is the charm for me.rudeney said:Did you try using RF instead of IR to see if it's an IR reception issue? It's not the remote, in only happens after the manual recordings, it seems that the box does not come out of standby. On the weekends when I have no scheduled recordings the HR21 turns on with no problem.rudeney said:Did you try using RF instead of IR to see if it's an IR reception issue?
