On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings (Sep 30, Oct 1 & Oct 2) Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show has not appeared on any of the NYC Hi Def local CBS channels (2, 80). Letterman ends and then the screen goes black. On the Sep 30 show DTV eventually put up a screen saying "We're aware of the problem....." but it happened again the next nite. Every other channel works fine, and there is no 771 or other errors.

While this has been happening on my HD DVR (watching live and recording) the SD feed is fine. Last nite I switched to the SD channel 2 and was able to watch the show. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or heard what is being done to fix it?

My semi-educated guess is that WCBS is doing maintenance on their digital feed somewhere along the line -- work which requires them taking the signal "off the air" entirely. Presumably, they scheduled it for after Letterman because it's late enough that relatively few people are watching but early enough that hopefully the technicians won't fall asleep.

You could probably give them a call to confirm that's what's going on.

This is not only a CBS issue. Same is true for WNBC Channel 4HD and at times ABCHD

I have noticed this over the past week. NY CBSHD and NY NBCHD and NY ABCHD go black/grey. Then later on in the morning; the DirecTV message saying "Don't call, we know about the problem" banner is aired.

I don't know what the cause is; but the HD local stations and their channels in the 80's are both not available after 1:00 AM. This is distressing!

I have had something similar here in Columbus, OH with FOX twice now in the last couple of weeks

A few weeks ago it was during the Sunday 49ers game it went to the "don't call us" message and last night it did it again on FOX with the banner saying after a while to tune to one of the East Coast feeds to finish watching Bones which was on at the time. My SD receiver/DVR upstairs had no problems it was just the HD feed.

I have had the same thing. No matter if you tune to 2 4 or 7 or 390 392 or 396 you get the same error message. The error or technical difficulties messgae comes from DIrectv. I had thought it was do to the satellite switch, but it happened again last night. The Fox HD feed in NY works fine (there is just crap on during the time period).

Then it sounds like it's work being done at the facility that receives the local signals and uplinks them to DirecTV.

It happens way too often where all the NYC TV transmitters are turned off precisely at 1am, presumably for maintenance. When the OTA signal goes off the air, DirecTV loses its feed too. Last time it happened I remembered to try to the SD channels in the 380's which were still working, though.

This has been happening on and off for quite some time. I take the MPEG 2 HD channesl from NY because I'm out of range for over the air reception. Almost every night after Letterman, the signal disappears on the HD feed but is available on my local SD feed.

Frustrating. I searched the DirecTV forum, but no luck on this issue.

I've posted this on the local NY thread -

A lot of work has been and continues to be done on the Combiner antenna atop the Empire State Building in New York City. The Combiner provides the digital signal for CBS, NBC, ABC, My and CW.

It appears that instead of hardwired fiber connections from the stations, Direct is using O-T-A antennas to pick up signal. So, what I'm assuming is that when antenna/transmitter maintenance is being done, usually late at night, Direct loses its signals.
