I was just sent an upgrade for my HR10 and they sent a new HR21-200. When I set it up, I was unable to pull anything from tuner 2. Could not pull my locals or any HiDef so nothing off 99. Tried three different locations, one where I currently have or had my HR10 and two where I have HR20's. All currently working fine with signals from high 80's up to 100 on all. When I connect the HR21, no go on 2. After I called D* back again they are sending a return box for the HR21 and agreed to credit me 100. towards a new retail HR22 after I activated. I went to Costco, picked one up, set up and activated but the same issue, no signal on In 2. When I put my HR20 back on the same lines, no problem. I called again and she said perhaps I need a dish upgrade to the new ones????? They are sending someone out but they have yet to schedule because she requested SWM on the install. Does any of this sound familiar?

Strange that two receivers are acting the same.
You've got two cables, and two BBCs. I'd try swapping the cables and then the BBCs and do a reset between each step to see what happens.
If one receiver is bad, then repeat these steps with the other receiver.
If your HR20 is working fine, then it isn't [shouldn't be] a dish problem.

I agree and I did try switching the BBC's and the cables with same results. Very strange indeed.

OK, "try this": use your HR20 and connect it to "this location". Prove that both tuners are working completely.
The leave the BBCs on the cables and plug in either/both receivers and see if they're bad. If so then, if you can, go back to Costco and get your HR22 swapped.

Yup, did exactly that with the BBC's/cables and it proved as you say. I can try to swap it at Costco but I thought that after it was opened they would not take it back that only D* could at that point. Worth a try though. If they do I guess I just call D* and tell them to deactivate the first one and activate the replacement?

"I believe" if it hasn't been activated, that it can still be swapped at "the store". If you have activated the receiver, then yes it's dealing with DirecTV.
I've learned to "wring out" any receiver first before activation.

But how can one do that? It would only let me go so far and then stayed on the screen to call for activation. I couldn't go any further so yes, I did activate it. Guess I will wait for them to come out. At least all my current boxes are operating properly so it is not like I am out of service. thanks again for your input.

When I connect a receiver, the first step is running the setup guide. Then after this "you're stuck" on either channel 100 or 200 with the welcome to DirecTV [garbage].
This is where I press the menu button and go into the setup menu, then you can run system test, setup the various setting for your TV and also go into the SAT setup and view signal levels, from each SAT and on both tuners.
Only after everything here "looks good" to I then activate the receiver. Then my programing is setup and I can move on to the next steps with the guide and perhaps even get a newer version of software.

I had five HR20-700s running perfectly and I kept having the same kind of problems with my first two 21s. A new dish, new cabling, new ground block and three realignments later the 21 finally started working. What was the problem? Still don't know. Pick from any or all of the above. But thru it all the 20-700s ran perfectly. They just don't seem to be as finicky as the 21s.

I just had a 21-200 go on me last night. Turned on the football game and then tried to watch something on another channel while the game was recording and got the dreaded 771 error message. Changed the BBC and switched to a different cable and the 771 stayed right there. Did a hard reboot and both tuners came back. While I was plugging in the 21 I noticed the fan came on as I plugged the cord in and an hour later it was off. This is another replacement with a 77 degree temp reading. The fan was off this morning and I have a replacement coming in a day or two (Praise the Protection Plan!).

[soapbox] I sure wish these damn boxes had a burn-in test before shipping[/end soapbox]
"New boxes" can take a bit of "fuss" to get everything to "wake up".
"I remember when" I had three digital boards for some classified receivers. One of them simply won't work. Both myself and the project engineer swapped everything we could to try to get it to start working. Then one day it started and I asked the engineer what he'd done. "Nothing" was his answer and wondered what I'd done. This board never gave us any more problems. Don't you just love digital?

Yes I do. And this is my 3000th post and I made sure it was to you.

Do I get a code ring or something to commemorate my impending carpal tunnel syndrome?
