I have had my HR24-500 dialing out on my phone line connection 4 times a
day. Also have to keep doing a reset receiver to get caller id to work. Anyone
else encounter this problem? When I pick up the phone I get data on the line.
I don't want my telephone tied up because directv is using my personal line.
I have had several calls go to voicemail when I have been home & available
to get the call. Any answers would be appreciated.

Any chance you can connect your HR24 to the Internet? I would hope that it would quit dialing out at that point.

You only have to have a Phone Line Connected if you use PPV as it uses the Phone Line to transfer the PPV Billing Charges.

Everything else can be handled via the Satellite or the Internet Connection.

I have the same issue with the caller ID on my HR24-500. It works for a day or so after a reboot and then it will stop working until the unit is rebooted. If you do a search in the forum you'll see it's a pretty common issue on the 24's.

Things you can check.
1. Proper grounding throughout the entire system. Bad grounds have a history of causing issues with caller ID on the HR's
2. DSL filters. If you have one on your HR24, make sure it's not reversed.

I've done all of the following on mine and it hasn't helped. For some reason, the 24's seem to be extra finicky on caller ID. My HR21 that was in the same location before I got the 24-500 didn't have the issues and caller ID was rock solid.

I didn't think you needed a phone line for PPV.:whatdidid Can't you just call DirecTv and order PPV?

As for the caller ID, this function and the Closed Captioning is finicky with respect to grounding like said above. I've always had problems with my HR24-500 regarding caller ID and CC. But even since I made sure my grounding was really up to par, I no longer have any problems with either.

Caller ID has always been an issue with my HR24-500s. I have 3 of them plus 2 HR22s. The HR22s and one HR24 work just fine with caller ID. One of the HR24s sometimes works sometimes not and the other never works.

If I move the receivers around the trouble stays with the two HR24s with trouble.

I'd call and ***** but I don't think they'll replace a receiver because of caller ID trouble and I'm afraid even if they would they'd replace my HR24s with something else and that is NOT going to happen!

+1.

I have a similar problem with one of my HR24-500s that occasionally the CallerID works and sometimes it doesn't.

Resetting sometimes works.

I'll just try this here instead of starting something new:

I've had my HR24 hooked up to a phone line via a wireless jack. In one room is the phone jack, and from that goes one line to my DSL modem and another to the DSL filter to the wireless jack/outlet. However, I've been having major problems with internet droppage for a while now, mostly while streaming XBox and also while simply on the internet. My modem will just starting flashing red and reset.

I'm trying to narrow things down, so I've unplugged the wireless jack and now just run one line straight to my modem. (Prior to that I replaced my 4+-year-old modem, which didn't help anything.)

So, I don't need the phone line to the HR24, right? I'm also considering a HomePlug-type device--either to run from my router to my XBox or to my HR24 since right now I have no connection.

Can any smart person offer any input on this scenario? I mainly want the droppages to stop but I want my HR24 functionality to be tip-top too. Thanks~

The first thing to try is to unplug the wireless phone adapter from the modem outlet to see if you can restore Internet (much more important than having your HR24 connected).

If it helps restore your Internet, keep adding stuff back until something breaks down.

If it doesn't help, you need to do some looking into your phone wiring or DSL filter.

For most, the phone connection is purely a means to CallerID (and only if you subscribe to it). It has little to do with the proper function of your receiver.
