I've been mulling the idea of replacing my dish 1000 with a 30 or 31" dish to gain signal strength on 129, among others. I've read that several folks here have done that, but what about the skew? The 30/31" dishes I've seen don't have any skew, and that won't work with the 3 sats? Or am I missing something?

What you might want to do is to use that larger dish for 129 only, then keep your current DIsh 1000 / 500 for 119 and 110.

The Dish 1000 is designed for use with 3 LNB's, larger dishes are generally designed to be used with only one LNB, your signal might actuallly be worse on the two LNB's outside the correct focal point.

Other users have experienced better signal by using a larger dish for 129.

I too have ordered a 30" dish for 129, I should receive it next week week sometime.

I will report signals on D1000 vs. d500 vs. winegard30"

With the Dish 1000 I had at best a signal of 55. I have placed the 30 inch Winegard Dish at 129 only and receive about 75 on the lowest transponder. Works great! I did not have any skew problems using the larger dish. I use a Dish 500 for the 110 and 119.

right -- so the best solution is to use a dish 500 for 110/119 and then the 30" dish at 129.

Well, I don't want another antenna, I already have a 36" at AMC4, and a dish at 61.5 plus the Dish 1000.

If you don't want an additional dish I guess you will have to live with the poor signal off the 1000. There is no larger replacement for the 1000(designed to pick up 3 locations).

The only other alterative is to optimize the pointing of your Dish 1000 for the 129 sat. Typically 119 is very strong and you can make a compromise to improve 129. Here is a link to a thread where Rob Glasser went through a reaim to optimize 129.
