No. Even with the C31 clients, no internet connection is "required". The Genie network works just fine without an internet connection, using the satellite coax as their own special network.

Thanks, after doing so research it appears that the only function of the ethernet connection is for on demand and pay per view. Is this correct?

"Internet" connection provides those features. Ethernet just refers to your home network, as in "ethernet cable".
