Question about moving with directv

937 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  MikeR7
I know that typically when you move directv gives you a new dish. The problem is I am moving from an apartment to a house that I bought and can't leave the dish. My landlord has told me that the dish has to go. I haven't called directv yet but has anyone had them do this? Do you think it will be a problem?

Is you dish one of the smaller round ones, or the big new ones?

New dish
You will probably have to remove the dish yourself or pay someone to do it!
But I would call D* ,explain that you have to remove it, see what they'll do for you!

If you uninstall it you can probably take advantage of an eWaste program to dispose of it. It's a shame that some many of those Dishes get thrown out. Seems like they could EASILY be recycled.
I don't see why they can't just come out and move it to my new house. That makes more sense. They wouldn't even have to waste a new dish on me.

When I was with Dish it was the same thing... I got a new Dish each time I moved. Each time my old Dish ended up in the trash.
The concept of leaving the dish behind is free advertising so the next occupant figures the "house" is ready to go and they call to connect service.

Yea I figured that. But at the same time I can't be the first person to move from an apartment and need to have the dish taken away lol
Hi,
I know for a fact that you will be refered to a local company, to have the dish removed. I've been told it has something to do with osha rules, but I feel it probably has more to do that it costs more money than its worth for Directv to send a technician to take it down. Bottom line there is no way a csr can even schedule that, even if there were I'd hate to see what the charge to the customer would be.

The cost to roll out and take it down is one factor. Another is the fact that in most states, if not all, the dish is considered a fixture to the property once it is installed. Once it is mounted, Dtv loses ownership rights to it.

$50-65 should be about right for somebody to take it down for you.
The other thing to think about is that they would be responsible for filling the holes in the roof or siding, and for doing it right and visually appealing and leakproof.
