Question about my Directv DVR????

1080 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  bluedogok
I have had my Directv dvr service now for a little over a year. I noticed on the back there are several hook ups aswell as an USB port. Is it possible to download 1,2 shows or all the shows, etc.. from my DVR to my personal computer to burn to a dvd so i can watch it on my own personal dvd player? And if so, what all do i need inorder to do so? This would free up some space on my dvr eventhough it doesnt matter to me anyways. I have some programs on my dvr i have saved for closed to a year and don't want to delete them, but instead like i said above, see if there is a way to transfer them to my PC so i can burn a dvd copy. Please let me know. Thanks

Not over USB. Those ports don't do anything yet.

You'll need a video capture card in your PC. Then connect the DVR to your PC like you would connect a VCR. Use the PC's video capture software to record programs from your DVR that you can burn to DVDs.

Oh.... well how much does those capture pc cards cost? and if i get one... how would i connect my dvr to my pc?
RCA or S-Video cables, there are several external capture devices on the market also. Pinnacle Systems is probably the most well known but there are many good ones out there. the Pinnacle Studio Movie Box retails for $99.99.
