Today I used search to set up some of my series links. I originally had "Big Break IV" set to record "Both." Then I added my series links for "Boston Legal" and "3 Lbs" (both record First Runs only). All three record at 10:00pm tonight.

I moved Big Break IV down well below the other two programs. I looked at my To Do list. 3Lbs was not listed, but BB and BL were. I watched live TV for awhile (5 minutes). I went back to my To Do list. It still was not listed.

I put the unit in standby and checked later. Things were listed properly in the To Do list, except that the next recording for the Big Break episode was not scheduled until 8pm on Wednesday. My TiVo upstairs properly scheduled a 3am recording.

So, two questions:

1) Why does it take so long for the prioritizer to reshuffle the recordings? How long, on average, does it take? The TiVo employed the changes immediately (and, admittedly, sometimes annoyingly so as it forced you to wait while it updated things).

2) Why did the HR20 miss the 3am showing of the Big Break repeat, instead opting to wait nearly a full day for the 8pm showing?

Note: Big Break airs a re-run of the previous week's episode at 9pm, and that is set to record too, since this is the first episode the DVR will see. I only got it last Wednesday.

I'm guessing, but I believe it is an educated guess.

As you point out, the HR20 doesn't require us to wait while it resets the todo list. It takes its time over the next few hours to reset everything. It does seem to pay more attention to items occurring in the next few hours than it does for things inbetween the next few hours and two weeks out.

I think that as new guide data arrives, it schedules things two weeks out, sometimes even before "rescheduling" things that are already in the guide.

I have had a couple recordings not show up in the todo list just as you've described until just before it did record correctly. so I think you will be getting the 3am recording.

One thing that appears to help in populating the todo list more quickly is to turn the unit off (really standby). That tells frees the unit to clean up the todo list and perform other housekeeping chores earlier.
