My father-in-law is considering getting Dish Network for his RV, since picking up locals in the campsites he typically stays at have marginal or non-existent analog reception (and expected to be potentially worse for DTV locals). I advised that he consider Dish Network, because his home is just outside Jackson, MS and the spotbeam for Jackson SD locals covers almost all of Mississippi and a large portion of Alabama.

Two questions:

1. Am I right in assuming that the SD locals for Jackson, MS on the 110 satellite will be untouched for at least a few years? It would be too complex to have my father in law setup a Dish 500 for regular channels and the 61.5 Dish 300 for the HD locals.

2. On the All-American Direct site where distant locals for an RV receiver can be ordered, there is a note that RV locals may disappear due to current legislation. I searched on RV distant networks, but don't see any current updates on this subject. Would he continue to have the RV locals waiver as an option after the digital transition?

The waivers should still be valid as long as AAD is allowed to continue selling DNS on Dishnet recvrs. Yes there is some legislation going on to block this DNS service on dish but NOTHING has been decided on yet.

Directv might be a better option as main programing and DNS are on just 1 sat, however w/ Directv you would not be able to sub to mississipi locals. With Dishnet, you can. Just sub to a standard package w/ locals, and then call up AAD and fax over the RV registration form and you'll get DNS added as well. You dont even need to tell dishnet that your planning on adding AAD's DNS.

You are not talking about Distant Network locals... you are getting REAL locals from Jackson, MS. Nobody can say for sure what Dish's plans will be for arranging locals on the different satellites.

Distant Networks are the ones carried from Atlanta and SF currently... and those will likely continue to remain on 110 for the forseeable future.
