:hi: Everyone. This is my first post so forgive me if this has been covered before.

I am getting ready to order some international channels but living with two small children I am worried about the type of programming that they play overseas. I know I have to option to block some channels and some programs by rating, but I wanted to ask everyone before I decide which channels to carry.

As you all know, Nudity is very common and quite accepted in Europe and can be seen not only in their movies, but in a variety of their TV programs, including talk shows, Games and even commercials. I have a list of channels which I have selected, and I want to ask if anyone knows, which of these channels contain nudity and sex in their programs.

Well, that's a lot of Int'ls. Do you understand all those languages?

That's a lot of money in subscription costs, too, if you're going to take several Intl packages.

I haven't noticed particulary more sex & nudity in the Int'ls (except of course for Playboy en Espanol but that's extra just like the "American" Playboy Ch.)

Anyway, you have parental locks but you'll probably have to do it by Ch#'s since they don't use our ratings system overseas.

BTW, TV Pakistan is very "clean" & the scripted content is very wholesome because of the Islamic values. Don't know about the political content, tho...

I understand that Italian and French channels are very liberal with Nudity. I also think Brazil is relatively liberal with nudity.

But I also believe the Japanese are very conservative about nudity.

Dish Latino includes Playboy en Español. But you can request that they do not provide that channel. The two movie channels in the package (Gran Canal Latino and Cine Latino) have movies that would be rated R. No porn or Cinemax-like bump and grind. But there is nudity and some very strong language. The rest of the channels are pretty "safe". TV Azteca is as racy as it gets. It's about the same as American soaps any more. Overnight sometimes TVE has some movies with Adult content. But no worse than the avarage cable station.

Keep in mind that you can lock out the Playboy channel so it doesn't even show up on your guide. Lock out the channel (498) or any channel in the 490s and it will block out the listings in the 490 block from the EPG. The rest of the channels can be blocked out by channel number or content. Though I feel the content blocking is useless since it relies solely on the listings which can be inacurate. Blocking out the channel completely is the safest bet. ...especially on the international channels.

The Portuguese (Brasilero) channels contain more skin than a taxedermy shop. Everything from talk shows to commercials to cooking shows have some barely clothed beauty that finds her way onto the set. Generally this is accompanied by enough double entenre to keep Mrs. Slokham talking about her pussy(cat) for a week.

The French channel is mild by comparison to the Brasilero channels, but it still has its share of nudity.

TV Japan is "safe" and free of most objectionable material. They have a more repressed society than we do. BTW TV Japan has about 4 hours of free programming a day. Mostly news shows.

Can't tell you about the others. Never seen them.

BTW, you do realize you are talking a couple of hundred dollars a month for all these packages, right?

You can occasionally find brief nudity in films on the russian channels. And I don't know about the other ethnic channels, but they don't have any ratings on these 2, so you can't block it by program type anyway

Once again, thanks for all your input. For those who asked, between my wife and friends most of the channels listed, can be understood. Plus I don't think I am going to get all of them. Just the ones that are appropriate for family viewing.

So from what I have gathered, the worst offenders in the pack are the two Brazilian channels:

TvGlobo (Brazil)
Record International (Brazil)


Followed by Gran Canal Latino and Cine Latino in Dish Latino.

Has anyone seen the Polish, the Italian and the Greek channels? I heard that the Polish are notorious for having a lot of nudity and sex in their movies and shows. Same goes for Italians.

If you have ever seen the Simpson episode where they go to Brazil and watch a children's show on the Hotel TV (Clockwise...counterclockwise...) It is not much of a stretch to the truth.

Grand Canal Latino and Cine Latino do not show movies beyond PG during the day (5am-9pm EST). The stuff that could be considered "R" comes at night. And again, the movies are generally not aimed specifically at purient interests. They just may contain some adult material or language.

I subscribed to RTPi for awhile (tried to pick up some Portuguese). It seemed to be focused on Portuguese culture, with some Brazilian interest as well. The content seemed reasonably mild, at the time. The price was low, compared to most others; $3 per month.
