I lost one of my HD-DVRs the other day, during reboot consistently going from the 0% splash screen to "Searching for Signal." Gets tired of searching for signal and boots up to "Acquiring Guide Data." No guide data, no access to previously recorded shows.

Here's my question. DirecTV is coming today to replace the bad DVR. I have a Seagate FAPro 750GB external hard drive hooked up to the bad one that is about half full. What do I need to do to that hard drive to get it ready for the new DVR? I know I can't save the old shows and I'm not sure how the new DVR will handle the used space.

It will either wipe it clean automaticaly, or it will list the old shows and you will just have to delete them yourself..

All you need to do is plug it into the new DVR before it powers up.

I think all the recorded programs will still show up in the list when the drive is attached to the new HR, but they won't play. I beleive you can then delete them.

oh, and if the shows are still there (doesn't format it) your series links will still be there and work too..
