Hey guys, I have an installer here installing 2 HR 21-100s. I don't have a phone line at all and planned to use ethernet. He is now telling me that I don't need any type connection and that I won't lose any features.

I don't believe him but don't have proof. Please help a brotha out!

What would I lose if I don't have an connection at all? Thanks.

How about updates? In the old days, the boxes had to "call in" to get authorization to initiate an install. Is that still the case also?

no. they update over the satalite.

If you have ethernet but no phone line, the only thing you lose is caller id. Ethernet looks like it might be used more in the future, too, for features like MRV (multi-room viewing) and widgets.

make shure he does the software update AFTER activation, outherwise the reciever will ***** for a phoneline to activate it.
