I know this is a dumb newbie question and i feel bad for even asking but i searched and didnt see the answer. On my box i have three sets of abc nbc etc.... i know the ones in the 80's are mpeg 2 so i assume that means the other ones are the mpeg 4 correct? Also which one is the better version the first channel 4 or the second channel 4 (they are right in a row) sorry if this is an amateur question but just wanted to know which channels to record. Thanks

One of those is the HD version of your local, the other is the SD version of the same channel. I think the one with the channel call letters is the HD version. I'm not at home now so I cannot check but I think thats right.

The ones in the 80's are the east coast and west coast network feeds for people in rural areas that aren't able to receive a network channel over the air or have received a waiver from their local affiliate to receive those channels. As you're in Hoboken, I don't think that applies to you.

So the other networks you receive each have two stations with the same channel number. One of them will be the local HD (in MPEG-4), the other will be the local in SD (MPEG-2). Typically the one that appears first in the guide will be the HD and will also have the call letters for the station.

I live in the San Francisco bay area, so my channels look like this:

2 - KTVU (Fox HD)
2 - SF2 (Fox SD)
4 - KRON (KRON HD)
4 - SF4 (KRON sd)
5 - KPIX (CBS - HD)
5 - SF5 (CBS - SD)

etc.

The one that says SFx is the SD version of channel x, the one with the call letters is the HD version of that same channel. Hope that helps.

I think its pretty standard that the HD channel is the first of the pair. That way, if they ever get autorecord working, the HR20 will always go for the HD version first.
