I have had D* for about a month now and my R16-500 is running with an internal temp of 122 degrees. Is this slightly higher than normal? The receiver is not in an entertainment center and sits out in the open on top of my DVD player which in turn sits on top of my TV. Thanks.

Stacking anything on top of a CRT TV is not a great idea. Heat will radiate up from the TV and the DVD player adds to that if it's powered on. If it's an LCD TV then never mind ;)

Try putting some spacers under the R16's feet to raise it up. Something like a couple checkers works... both my R15s run cooler with spacers under the feet.

Nope! my R15-500 runs between 122 and 125.It normally has a 3 or 4 degree temperature difference because the fan is temperature controlled.;)

Mine's on top of my 50" RPTV on top of my DVD Player.;)

My R15 & R16 both run around 105F and they are stacked atop each other in an enclosure. There is plenty of space around them though. So I would say temps 120F+ are elevated from the equipment they sit on.

If you research this issue you will find that the same model manufactured by different manufacturers do have different temperatures.Just for curiosity's sake do both your R15 and R16 have the same three last numbers inside on the tag behind the access card door?.It should say MFR:100/200/300 ect.?

I do see where the Humax versions seem to operate at higher temps than the Philips.
Correct.I wish they didn't but that seems to be the nature of the beast.I wish all DVRs would operate at the coldest temperature they could because it seems to point to the cooler the operation the longer the hard drive last.;)

Oh by the way.Welcome to the Forum!.:welcome_s :) ;)

This could depend on the AMBIENT temperature in the room too.

My R15-300's and R22-200 run about 105-110 degrees in the summer BUT I have air conditioning and the house rarely gets above 78 degrees even when nobody is home (and the A/C is off).
