I have an old R10 (not sure the Mfg#) that has one of the satelite inputs malfunctioning. Luckly the input is the #2 so I can still use the #1 input and watch as a normal receiver.

There is an R10 on eBay advertised as just the R10 unit without the HD or cables, card, etc.

Could I plug my old HD into the eBay R10, along with the necessary wires, and have a completly working R10? How would I go about resolving the access card issue?

thanks,

Yes. However, you'll have to perform a "clear and delete everything" before the replacement R10 will function properly with your current R10's hard drive installed. That will wipe out your recordings and other settings.

Provided the replacement R10 has no outstanding billing charges, DirecTV should let you move your current R10's access card into the replacement R10. You'll have to call them to do this, and they might still insist that you buy a replacement access card for $20.
