Just signed up for D* with a standard def DVR. Install is scheduled for this Sunday and I know I can not request the specific model of receiver that is installed. Here are some questions I have:

1. What differences other than color between R15 and R16?

2. Have they started installing the R22 yet in the Orlando, FL market?

3. Of those of you that have had both...which do you prefer, the R15 or R16?

4. Any tips/tricks for the R15/16/22?

Thanks!

First I have had both. I prefer the R16. One reason is SWM compatibility, another is its smaller. I am not sure about the R22 in this are buy oyu'll find out on Sunday :D .

Considering that you live on Orlando, FL I highly doubt that you would get a R22.

R22's are only deployed in markets that get their locals from the 72, 99, & 103 satellites (currently).

As for the R15 Vs R16, the only differences are that the R16's are black, smaller, and can use a SWM (Single Wire Multiswitch). Other than that they are functionally the same.

Quick question, how many receivers did you ask for?

--- Edit ---

I wonder if they will install the SWM with only one TV being connected? Is the SWM even available in Orlando?
Looks like you answered my question, if there is only going to be 1 TV they are not going to install a multiswitch. They only install those when they are needed.

Since the dish has 4 outputs they will run 2 lines directly from the dish to the DVR.

The R15 is a wonderful DVR with the current release of software. You will like it if you get one.

The R22 isn't as wonderful as some people may lead you to believe. For connection to an SD TV, I much prefer the R15. (I hate "crippled" software/"grayed out" menus)

Except that the R15 includes an internal destacker whereas the R16 doesn't. This means that in MDU installations you need an R15 for MFH1, and an R16 for MFH2.
