Just replaced my dying UTV, and have a question about the remote.

1. I was able to find the codes fine for my TV and lock the volume so it works no matter where the slide bar. Howerver, if I push the TV OFF button it turns off the R15 and TV (same for ON). Is there a way to have it ONLY turn off the TV?

2. The TV INPUT button doesnt work to change inputs on the TV. Any secret to that?

Thanks.

1. I think it's working as designed. After all, there's no reason to have the R15 on if the TV is not on, since the R15 is *always* on as far as recording, receiving guide updates, etc. are concerned. You can turn your TV off by sliding the selector switch to TV and then using the center power button on the remote.

2. I found out that there are more device codes than are shown on the R15's remote setup screen, and that more than one code might work for your TV, but not work completely. I thought that I had the right code for my TV since the main power and volume worked OK, but the TV On/Off buttons that you asked about did not work at all. Someone gave me a couple other codes to try and now that function works.

Try posting your message and TV info in the DirecTV support forum section for issues with remotes.

Only way to get it to turn off the TV only is to slide the switch over to your TV and then hit the power button. That would turn the TV off but leave the R15 on.

As stated above even if turned off the R15 continues to record anything you have scheduled. The major reason to have it off when not in use is that it signals to the box it's now ok to go ahead and do the housekeeping instead of waiting for pre determined timeout where there is no activity seen.

With the RC23 there is a second step to activate the TV input button. After you have set the TV code, repeat step 1 (holding mute and select) and then enter 960.

I guess that is a good point about the R15 always being "on" even if you turn it off for standby, no big deal. Just different than how I do my other one. So it will be cool that way too. This is a rarely used TV anyway.

Carl -- thanks for this info. That worked to get the TV INPUT working even on the RC32.
