We were in Circuit City the other evening and they had black R22's for $99 and an HD dvr also for $99. If we don't get a R22 when we move and get DirecTV again, should I buy the HD dvr even if we don't currently have an HD tv, or would the R22 be better for now? Also, our new house has a basement with only one cable going to it. If they can't run another cable to it, would the single-wire multiswitch only work with the R22, or the HD dvr too?

The R22 if you get an HD DVR you also have to pay the $9.99 HD Access fee. Both are SWM compatiable.;)

Completely up to you, but if you're thinking of going HD in the next 12 months I would go for the HD DVR.
