So I was reading this thread, how do you delete from prioritizer if none scheduled, and it did get me thinking about one thing:

Can you re-populate your to do list?

Here was my first attempt at a series recording:

Tour de France, first run, on channel 604 (picture is better than the 603 showing).
A couple shows later, I missed the end and decided to pad the back end by 30 minutes.
I did not think to try adjusting the shows already in the "to do" list, so I deleted them (while in the to do list, red button), thinking I could reschedule.
From this point, my multiple attempts to reschedule never put anything back in to my "to do" list... I think because the old prioritizer entry (or now entries) was (were) still there, so I just manually added (from the guide) what I could... Now I saw the non-series Rs, with padding, in my TD list and I was happy.
I then figured out how to clean up my prioritizer list, and to edit the settings of prioritized items (not sure if this would affect items already in the to do list).
A few days later I saw that I had new series Rs in my To Do list (also padded), so things must me OK, but...

After deleting items in my To Do list (there were about 10), is there a way to force them back in, or would patience have triumphed and they would have been added back automatically (keeping in mind the TdF is a daily broadcast, and has multiple airings per day, on multiple channels - so there is a first run on 603 and 604)?

Also (just thought about this), is there channel info in the prioritizer? My new entry is only recording on channel 604, as desired, but is that part of the search criteria? How does it know only 604? Last time I looked, I did not see channel as part of the prioritizer entry, but the same show is carried live on 603 and 604 at the same time...

Thanks for your help,

Eric

Eric -

There is no way that I know of to force the repopluation of the ToDo list. It does this as a background task, and you just have to wait as it does this.

I believe that if you manually delete it from the ToDo List, it will not come back unless you delete and re-create the series link. You may be able to force them back if you change some series link options such as first run/repeat, but I don't know that anyone has ever tested this situation. (If you think about it, in many cases this would not be the desired behavior. If I have manually deleted an episode, I don't know that I want the DVR to be adding it back.)

If you had just changed the series link to add the padding, it will affect the items in the ToDo List, so that should have worked. The series link is tied directly to a channel. If there are episodes set to record, you can select the series link in the prioritizer, and you can see the channel. Currently, if there is no episodes scheduled, you cannot see the channel that is tied to the series link. (There is a wish list item to add this information in that instance.)

I think my problem was I did not think to look at the prioritizer before I deleted the items in th To Do list.. Then, once it was back to the way I wanted it, I did not revisit the prioritizer either... Now that I have series recordings scheduled again, I'll take a closer look.

Thank you

I'm pretty sure (from experience) that the DVR figures you didn't want that episode when you cancel a To Do list entry from the Series Link. You have to add it back manually.

Now, if you adjust the Series Link, I believe that it will adjust To Do eventually.

Makes perfect sense to me!

If you delete an entry from the ToDo List, the only way that episode will make it back into the ToDo List is if you delete and recreate the SL or if you manually add that episode back in.

If you delete the SL and recreate it, it might take up 24 hours for all episodes to be put back into the ToDo List. However, if there is an airing before that time it should still be recorded even if it is not in the ToDo List when you first create the SL. As an example, think of a show that mgiht air back-to-back new episodes. Although the first episode is added to the ToDo List since you use it to create the SL, it will appear as if the second episode is not going to record, however it will.

As for the Channel Listing in the SL, that is one thing that bugs a lot of people. When looking at an SL, there is no way to know what channel the SL is recording off of unless you select the SL and look at the episode description. Of course, if there a no upcoming episodes there is no way to know which channel the SL is for. The SL though does know which channel to record from as it will only record off of the channel that the episode was on that was used to create the SL. The one exception to this are AutoRecords.

That's what got me... I had just deleted items in the To Do list, I thought I re-created my SL, but my old SL was still in the Prioritizer... And no shows had yet been added... So since I'm new, and had nothing to look at, it was quite confusing... I think it's time to watch the videos and read the manual again... Now that I understand the concepts better, the instructions might make more sense (like I said, the prioritizer was a very new concept to me).

This actually falls in line with something I've been wondering about...

I just 'upgraded' from w HR10-250's to w HR21-100's. With the old unit, when I put a Wish List or Season Pass in, entires showed up in the ToDo list almost immediately.

Generally, I like to keep new episodes until I delete them, but for some series we also used to record 10 repeats just for something to watch in the off seasons. With the HR10's, I'd set up a Season Pass for the new ones only, and a Title/Keyword Wish List for the repeats, and that seemed to work ok.

I tried setting up a couple of Keyword searches:

AALL TWO HALF MEN CCHAN 1 100
AALL ACCORDING TO JIM CCHAN 1 100

and set them to record Both, 10 episodes, Disk Full, but after a couple of hours, none of the episodes were in the ToDo list, even though there were 8-15 in the episode lists in the Prioritizer.

So, all that to ask, how long does it usually take for recordings to start showing up in the ToDo list?

I also tried a couple like

FANTASY CCHAN 1 400 NNOT PPV & Movies, Fantasy / Both / 5 episodes / Disk Full

to try and and mimic Wish Lists, and entries ARE showing up in the ToDo list, but it seems to only have entires for the current and maybe next day. Again, just trying to get a feel for how long it takes for entries to show up in the list.

Thanks in advance for all your help...

Trace, you've run across the same issue that led to this Wish List request:

An "UPDATE NOW" option to immediately populate the TO DO LIST with all matching programs in the GUIDE, after scheduling a SL, AUTORECORD, or re-ordering the PRIORITIZER.

If you haven't already visited the Wish List and let DirecTV know how you value this and the other suggestions on the list, please do so here. TIA. /steve

Trace - This is slightly off topic, but you may want to optimize these two searches to add the TTITLE keyword, otherwise the search will match any program with the three words anywhere: program name, episode title, or description..

AALL TWO HALF MEN TTITLE CCHAN 1 100
AALL ACCORDING TO JIM TTITLE CCHAN 1 100

FANTASY CCHAN 1 400 NNOT PPV & Movies, Fantasy
I'm curious if this search returned any results for you, as I thought that the NNOT search operator had to come before the CCHAN filter ...

You guys are now on graduate level prioritizer...

I am familiar with the search modifiers, but I'm going to keep it simple for now...

But thanks for the examples.

I hate to hijack this thread further, but I will. :)

Actually, if you don't use AALL or AANY, SEARCH should look for whatever words you enter as a "literal string". So for all practical purposes, these SEARCHES could be all you need:

two and a half men CCHAN 1 100
according to jim CCHAN 1 100

I'm not home to check this, but give it a try. These searches should only find shows where those words are listed in the exact order you entered them. Ya, there's a chance either exact phrase may be present in the description field as well, but if it's a show about your show, it may be a serendipitous match.
