I'm moving into a house that was a show house for a home automation company.

I purchased the house with five 42"-50" Plasma's. There is built-in audio throughout the house. Everything is controlled via a wireless touch screen remote. There is a centrally located equipment rack with several coax runs coming in from the dish. I want to install my HR24 and H24 in the equipment rack and send the video signals to the selected rooms. I will never need to watch more than 2 channels at one time on two different TV's, so I only need two receivers. All the TV's have wall-fished component video runs going to them from the equipment rack. The problem becomes controlling the DirecTV receivers from any of the 5 rooms. How do I change channels while in the room (living, dining, bedroom, ect) watching TV? The receivers are in a different part of the house. I believe the previous owner was using E* on UHF.

Any ideas? If I can get this set-up to work it will save me a bundle on extra receiver fees.

Cheapest Solution:
Buy Component splitters from monoprice for the video distribution, and use DirecTV RF remotes (if in range).

You probably have rf remotes already with the 24's and they have decent range on them if the rack is central like you say. You have to enable rf in the menu.

Are you sure there isnt some IR distribution equipment as part of the automation system. What are the details of the wireless remote can it be programmed to act as your remote?

It could be done with ir repeaters but might not be cheap. But you could have the wiring in place depending on how they installed it.

Is there electronics in place to handle the 2 separate component video leads? Does each set have 2 different component leads? They use cat5 or video cables?

If you can't use RF, get a next generation remote extender

I don't believe the RC65RX remotes that I have are RF. They are IR. I may need the new remotes that were posted on ebay.

I don't know what exact remote control is included. I did not take a long look at the remote. I might be able to program it to interact with the DirecTV receivers.

Are the RF receivers already built into the H24/HR24?

Cat5 and component video cables were both used.

The RC65RX is in fact both IR and RF. It defaults to IR and I'm sure that is how yours is set up. But you can change it to RF mode easily. Yes, all of the H and HR series products have RF receivers.

Menu --> Settings --> Remote Control --> IR/RF Setup and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you have an I-Phone, and a home wireless network, use the I-Phone app.

I work for a custom installer and DTV dealer. We do a LOT of remote reciever installs. Most of them we use Control4, but for those houses that don't want home automation, we have quite a few options.
One is "Episode® Electronics 1x4 IR Repeater with Power Supply". (google it, can't post links yet) The eye can be spliced into an existing cat5 install using the two spare pairs. Or we have "Binary™ Single Cat 5e/6 HDMI 1.4 Extender with Surface Mount IR and Flasher Kit" that supports bi-directional IR control over 1 cat5 cable. There also exists matrix switches, but those get confusing really fast.

Of course, all the products I posted are dealer-only, but I'm sure you can find an off the shelf option.
