Receiver issue or something else causing 771

819 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  fikuserectus
I am all of a sudden seeing the dreaded 771 on only my HD locals and on only one receiver. No issues at all since install 8 months ago and just 2 days ago they are no longer showing up.

Details: I currently am set up with and HR21 upstairs and H21 downstairs. The
HR21 has no issues receiving locals in HD. I have checked connections, RBR'd, had the receiver reflashed by D*, and even moved the receiver upstairs and connected it in place of the HR21 using all of the HR21 cabling including one of it's BBC's. Still can't get my HD locals on the H21 receiver. Does that narrow it down to an issue with the receiver?

Signals on 99a, 101, 103b, 110, 119 are all 90's

99B:

17-24 100 100 100 0 0 0 0 0

sounds like it to me, I'd also try moving the workign receiver downstairs and testing with all of that wiring just to double check and see signal strength.
Also, with the receiver not getting your locals, check channel 482 and 483 and make sure they are working.

Both say "Correct HD dish setup. 99B-Band Odd" and Even

Will they just send me a new receiver if I give them all the details?
They should remove that receiver from your account, and re-add it. Sounds like a software issue or authorization issue on their end, since the receiver is picking up the sat your locals are on, and signal strength is 100%...but they will probably roll a service truck to check it out. If its the receiver, the service tech will exchange it.

YMMV :)
I have almost the same situation, 2 HR21s that work great and 1 H21 that is quirky. It goes thru total reset every time there's a power glitch and I have to reauthorize locals after each reset. It also gets frequent 771s when changing channels. I replaced it once and the second box is as bad as the first.

The case management person at D* says there are software problems with the H21 boxes that they are working on. She also recommended that the H21 box be left on a non HD channel when turned off because some of them will automatically reset if left on an HD channel for more than 12 hours.
I also get the 771 messsage on HD channels from time to time. No one at Directv has any good information about it. I made Directv move my dish to a better location and that seemed to help. However, yesterday the 771 message came up on channel 205!
