Just wondering if it is recommended to leave the receiver on continuously or to turn it off/on standby when not in use...?

When it is in standby it is on anyway. I started turning mine off at night when it was in my
bedroom because the blue power light and resolution light were too bright. Now it is in my
basement so it is always on.

I've gone back and forth on this several times, but at the moment I keep the HR20 in standby when not used. It runs cooler when left in standby. After 10 minutes it stops buffering live TV and that's probably the reason for the heat dissipation.

Heat is important to me because my HR20 is in a closed cabinet with only one 3" diameter hole for airflow. With a USB-powered fan placed right over the processor's heat sink, I run 115 when left in standby, and 119 when left on. I know the unit is ok operating up to 128 but I'm trying to find a good place for the fan where it will still do enough cooling when it's 80 in the house in the summer.

I've got mine set to turn off the tv and box with the off button on the remote. I have never had a problem coming out of standby or with recordings that have occurred while in standby.

I put the unit in standby if I did a RBR that day. By doing that I rebuild the guide faster. If I didn't do an RBR I sometimes just leave it on. I have programmed my Harmony to NOT turn the unit to standby. I do it manually if I do it.

I don't think this statement is correct.
This has been discussed several times in the forum; after 10 minutes in standby, HR20 may stop buffering and buffering does not start again until the unit is taken out of standby.

I have personally experienced this on numerous occasions as have other users.

So far on all 3 of my hr20's, when put into standby they continue to buffer.

This question is asked at least once a week. Maybe this should be a sticky :D Or, maybe others should read through some of the threads on pages other than the first one.
