Receivers not in sync

Yesterday I had both the TV in the downstairs den and the TV in the upstairs game room on to the same channel. Standing at the top of the stairs I noticed that the downstairs TV is about a second or two behind the upstairs one. It's like a perfect echo of complete sentences. Why would the two receivers be off by a second or two?

Depends on what kind of receivers. I have noticed that my UTV receivers are a little behind (about 2 seconds) the standard receiver. It makes sense, though, as the UTV has to bring in the signal, assign a tuner, and record it before it goes to the tv. Before I had my UTV, my Mitsibushi and standard RCA receievers were never in sync, but only about 1/2 second off.

BTW, my two UTVs are in rooms next to each other (Family Room and Master Bedroom) and they aren't in sync with each other. They are the same brand hooked up to the same multi-switch. The Family Room UTV is ahead of the bedroom one by about 1 second.
I've seen the same thing with both Dish and DirecTV. It kind of comes and goes. Probably something to do with the way each of them decodes the datastream. It's nothing to worry about.
