I've been slowly learning the differences between my old DirecTV TIVO and my new 722. So far I've got to say that I like many of the features on the 722, but find it confusing at times. I guess that comes from many years of having TIVO

Anyway, I haven't been able to figure out how to get a recording to resume at the point I left off if I was recording it at the same time I was watching it. For example, I began recording last night's Olympic coverage at 7PM, and then began watching it from the start at 8:30PM. At 10:30PM we wanted to pack it in for the night. How do I stop viewing the recording so that I can resume from the same place the next day? Sometimes I see an option to resume and sometimes I don't.

I'm sure that there must be a simple answer, but I haven't tumbled to it yet.

One of the complaints about the E* receivers is it won't let you resume from where you left off until after the recording is finished. I typically wait until the recording is finished or until it's close to finished so that if I want to stop it and start it later it will resume. Otherwise, I don't know of anything thing that can be done short of waiting until the recording is completed.

The only other way is with something like the Olympics if you are caught up to live is wait for a commercial break and stop that recording and start a new one to finish the show. Then the new show will continue from where you started it.

The danger of doing that is you will stop the current recording and then have to start a new recording. So you want to be caught up so as to stop during a commercial. Or do as was stated above. Start watching a 5 hour Olympic show after 3 hours and watch to after it has stopped recording.

Keep in mind that doing so before you are caught up will not do what you want.

Thanks for the replies.
Let's see if I have this straight: if you start watching, while it's recording, you have to either watch it to the end or later start over and fast forward to the point you left off watching, but if you start it after it's completed recording you will be able to stop anywhere and have the option to resume. Correct? That is really strange, or at least different than I've been used to :( .

technically, there is another option. Simply hit pause, don't turn off the 722, turn off your tv, go to bed, wake up and hit unpause :)

also, i'd have to go try this to verify for myself, but if I understood what one post tried to say, if you start watching the show while it's recording, but stop watching AFTER the recording ends, it'll remember where you were. it's only WHILE the recording is happening that it doesn't remember. if I understood the post in question :)

perhaps this issue arises out of a need to not "infringe" on more patents ??

You would be correct.
