Prior to start of the new Entourage season, I set up Record Series for ch. 501, first run only, keep up to 5 episodes. The first show last Sun 9/7 recorded just fine.

Throughout the week, To Do List did not show any future 1st run Entourage, nor does Record Series icon show in the program guide. The Prioritizer shows the series, though.

I have over 60% disk space available and no other recordings scheduled. I deleted the series in Prioritizer, but after confirmation, it reappears as if I never deleted!

I also pressed the Record button in the guide, and what appears is the Record Series icon (not the single program record). Entourage shows up again in the To Do List, but several minutes later it disappears again from both To Do List and the guide.

I tested other series on other channels including The Cho Show (which records, shows future 1st runs on To Do List, and is listed in Prioritizer) and could successfully delete from prioritizer.

So there are 2 problems... Record Series not working and also cannot delete series from Prioritizer.

Any suggestions?

Aren't you "jumping the gun"? Look at the info for the shows and see when they first aired, I believe the new shows haven't started yet.
Not at all. The new season started last Sun 9/7. There should be 12 episodes for this new season, premiering every Sun night.

I have a SL for Entourage on Channel 501 that is showing in the To Do List, set to First Run, but Keep Until I Delete. Try changing that setting to see if there is any change. Do you have any episodes of Entourage in your Playlist?

Drew2k,
That brings up a different question: if I set to Keep Until Delete, but I have Keep at Most 5 episodes, what is higher on the totem pole?

I actually deleted the season premier (9/7 1st run) right after I viewed it -- probably Mon 9/8. Could this have affected my series recording?

I don't see why it would, but maybe this threw it into purgatory where I can't delete the series from Prioritizer and it won't stay in To Do List.

I'm deleting from Prioritizer only to try and redo a new Entourage series recording.

I was mixing my items, sorry. I have it set to keep all episodes, and keep until I delete, which are my default settings.

I believe if you have KUID and KAM 5, it still records a new showing but deletes the oldest showing from your playlist, keeping 5 total in your playlist. (This may be opposite of what you suspsect, where instead it would simply keep the 5 showings in the playlist and not record future showings, but that's how DIRECTV implemented it.)

Here's something to try: Delete the series link for Entourage on Channel 501, and create a new auto-record series link as follows:

MENU > SEARCH > Keyword.
Enter the following: ENTOURAGE CCHAN 501 508
(Note the two C's on CCHAN above)
CONTINUE
Choose category HIGH-DEF
Let the search run
Choose Autorecord
Specify your settings.

Then check your To Do List and see what happens.

This approach has the added benefit that it will record Entourage in HD off of any HBO channel, not just 501, so if you have conflicts, you can move the ARSL for Entourage lower and it can pick it up at another time and on another channel for you.

Thanks very much for the info - i'll give that a try.

Going back to my initial issue, what's not addressed is my initial issue of doing a "beginner's way" of re-trying a series record:

But it could have been thrown off by this:

I wonder if this is a bug... series record gets screwed up by deleting the 1st episode in series right after viewing, with series set at First Run, Keep At Most 5 episodes, Keep Until Disk is Full.... and I wonder if it's a known bug on this forum.

My wife just had this exact same problem last night. In her case, she found out that there were recording conflicts that were not announced. Just no items scheduled to record. That is a big shortcoming if there is no "you set a series link but there are conflicts for the following X episodes as listed below" just like the directivos did. If you don't know there are conflicts you have no knowledge that there is something to deconflict. She had to play with the prioritizer until the todo list reflected all the shows she knew she could record.

Time to go to the wishlist site and vote for this one (if there).

Nope. That's how 90% of people do things. Set up a Series, watch the first episode, detete the episode, wait for the next one. If it was a bug, it would have been noticed the first day these machines were produced.

Hmm... I still have a couple of Series 2 DirecTiVos, and around last Thursday, they "lost" their "Season Pass" links. The Season Passes were there, but could not find any new episodes (and I missed some recordings as a result).

Recreating the Season Passes worked, and the new SP finds the upcoming episodes correctly, but now they don't get grouped in the same folders as they were.

For example, I have the first 52 episodes of Entourage PLUS 1 episode from the new season in one folder, but the second episode wasn't "found" and wouldn't have been recorded. Since I deleted the old SP and created a new one, episode 54 is in a second, separate Entourage folder.

I had this problem with all of my SPs. I had it before as well, with a few shows last fall.

I am guessing that someone reset or reindexed the shows in the Tribune data, which killed the links from older SP/SL. Of course, I can't prove that, but it is the only thing that really makes sense.

Further research has confirmed that this is a widespread problem. It appears that Tribune and/or DirecTV changed the series IDs of many programs, which kills the links between your SL or SPs.

Could it be the unique feature of this bug be the "keep only 5"? I have never set a SL for that option ever.

This works! The only different setting I made was changing from Keep At Most 5 to Keep All Episodes.

I wonder if this is the cause of my issue.

It's possible, but I would have to imagine there's lots of people that use that option (although I don't either), and I haven't heard of this before. New bugs do crop up, however.

Duuuuh! Same thing happened to us on our HR20-100 yesterday. If I hadn't started investigating why 'Mad Med' didn't record last Sunday (different issue) I never would have seen that 5 of our 8 programs on the Priority List had no programs scheduled to record in the To Do list. As soon as I deleted them and re-added them -- bingo! An hour later there were 29 shows in the list!

But, this is the weird part -- I had to do an RBR first before any deletes or 'cancel series' would stick. Each time I killed a series in the PL and left the PL, and then came back, there it was back again - every damn one of them!
