I just emailed customer service and they said:
"Thank you for your e-mail. Please be advised that our technician will not bring the off-air antenna and even if the DISH Network system is connected to an off-air antenna, you will still not be able to record 3 channels at the same time. The ViP622 is a dual-tuner which means that only 2 TVs can be connected to it."
So, 2 questions..
According to this showthread.php?t=64721 (sorry for the bad link, this is my first post and I am not allowed to post url's) I can record 3 things at the same time, one off-air and the others via sattalite. Is this true, or should I believe customer service?

Also, I live in the city of st louis, would rabbit ears work for HD, or do I need to mount something on my roof?

Customer Service is wrong. You can record three programs at the same time if you have an OTA setup.

Look at www.antennaweb.org for information about your location and what type of antenna would be needed to get the OTA channels in your area.

And, welcome to the forum!

Why does this question keep coming up. Lets put a sticky on this board which clearly says in the title that YES 3 HD CHANNELS CAN BE RECORDED AT ONCE!!! Its been asked and answered like 100 time. Why does Dish still not even know this. I record 3 at the same time all the time. Plus you could even watch another program while recording 3.

The reason this question keeps coming up is because people read online that they can record three things at once, but then official Dish Network representatives tell them that they can't. It makes sense that people are confused.

So what is Dish Network's problem? This seems like it would be a great feature to use selling their service, and it is a clear differentiator with other DVR's on the market. Why the hell aren't they pushing this, and why don't their CSR's know that this is a feature?

It is a great feature, and one of the best things of moving from a 522 to a 622 in my opinion (other than the HD:))

lol, they are really bad. Reading the quote above does not even make sense. The fact that it is a Dual tuner DVR has nothing to do with the fact that only 2 TV's can be connected to it. It is a 2 OUTPUT DVR, and a 3 Tuner DVR.

Wow. If Dish themselves don't understand how this works, how is Joe Sixpack ever supposed to understand.

My take on why Dish doesn't say you can record three things at once is that people hear what they want to hear.

Dish Says you can record three things at once if you have an OTA antenna and the OTA signal is in HD. Customer hears you can record three things blah blah blah. Customer call back, You said I could record three things. I'm trying to record HBO & Showtime & Starz and it isn't working. I want my money back or I want a credit until it is fixed.

Customers can be dumb. But I think CSA's tend to be dumber. They are just robots who read what is front of them (kind of like news anchors).

Yes 1st level CSRs with most companies do not have a lot of product knowledge and even 2nd level have minimum. From my experience they get very little training and work a lot with scripts created for common problem. You got to remember that for a CSR it is a job. For us.. it is a hobby or a purchase decision.

<Not directed at you Ebaltz, just a general tip when seeing the same question over again.)

Ok guys.... When it is the persons first time.. how about welcoming the person and point them to a thread that discusses it or point them to the "General Tips" thread that is sticked if the answer is there. Also we can point out the search feature and show what words to use with it to get them the answer so they can become familiar with our search tool.

Like I said in my tip sticky, if there is a question that keeps getting asked then feel free to pm me and I will add it to the sticky. I really want that thread to be useful for situations just like this.

In this spirit, I have updated the Sticky on Tips to include the 3 tuner question. It was not specifically spelled out and was included in the 2 HD question so I made it more obvious to try and avoid this question getting asked multiple times.

And ofcourse... :welcome_s kcroke
