Is there a recording history on the Hr20 like there is on the Hr10? I mean something that can tell you why things didn't record in the past and why they won't record in the future. I used to monitor that list weekly to make sure I had my conflicts all taken care of. It was very useful.

As a tangent, could they make this box less intuitive to use? As an example I just learned how to set up my season pass defaults (a very nice feature, by the way, and one that Tivo doesn't have) and it was ridiculous to find. I had seen the instructions in the tips and tricks guide on the forum and still couldn't remember how to do it until I looked at it again. I can honestly say that I never would have found it on my own. Why were the recording defaults not included in the regular menu area or at least in a sub-menu?

Yes, and it's also called "History" on the HR20. It's under the "Scheduler" menu. I don't think that it provides quite as much information as the Tivos did, but this feature was improved with the latest software release.

Why they won't record in the future, you will find in the todo list.

A "History" is available, ... I just don't remember "exactly" where it is.
I am 99% sure you will see it on the left pannel when you are in the todo list.

It is not as "detailed" as the HR10's History, however with the recent 0x10b they have started to make improvements to the History

As for the "intuitive", depends on the user I guess.
I can understand why they put the defaults where they are... Where do you go to change those settings, if they are not defaulting to what you want.....

What I think is wrong... is that the manual just simply wasn't done well enough.

Yes, Ox10b has this info.

It's on the list of things to be improved upon.

Thanks I'll check it out. As long as it tells me what won't record in the next 2 weeks I'll be happy.

I just got the box last week so I haven't been able to really test it out with season passes yet since nothing new is on. Also, I haven't gotten my new 5 lnb dish yet as Directv refuses to schedule an installation yet. They claim that they are too busy to even schedule an install date. It's one of the weirdest things I've ever heard. So I don't want to set up season passes on the mpeg-2 locals when I'm just going to have to do it again for the mpeg-4 ones once I get them.

At least my story isn't nearly as bad as my mothers as she has now had 4 separate installation appointments for an HD upgrade and still hasn't gotten anything to show for it. The first one the installer arrived early before my mother was home (my mother told them she wouldn't be home until 2:30 but they showed up at 1:00 anyway). The second time he showed up almost 2 hours late with no ladder and couldn't do the job. The 3rd time he installed everything (dish and HD Dvr) except when I came a few days later I saw that he installed the 3 lnb dish instead of the 5 lnb, didn't put in the Zinwell multiswitch, and just to top it off didn't even properly align the 3 lnb dish. So my mother couldn't even get the Mpeg-2 HD channels as the dish could even see the other 2 satellites. The 4th time the guy didn't bring a new dish with him as he thought it was supposed to simply be a service call. It would be really funny if it weren't true.

I think installation is what really holds Directv back. Most of my friends have cable and they say the reason why they don't want to switch to Directv is that they don't want to deal with the hassle and extra wiring necessary with a Directv installation.

Forgive me, fellow DBStalkers, but from time to time I must give kudos as they occur to me... ;)

Two even!--about history: 1) For some time, perhaps forever, the history for manual recordings lists all the shows recorded. A feature not found in other DVRs...

2) The newest version is much better! More simple descriptions as to what happened. I'm also glad to hear they will get even better. And history codes!

Dang, I guess that was three kudos... Well, they are well deserved. Good job, Gals and Guys!

Cheers,
Tom

I know this is off topic but the 5th installer just showed up at my mother's house (she was away last week) with, I kid you not, the 3 LNB dish. It's really weird. Why would they even be using those. The installer is trying to tell my mother that the only difference is for international channels. She is in New York City so she gets the locals already in Mpeg-2 but still, why would they put up a 3 LNB dish ever. THey probably have extras and are trying to unload their inventory.
