Red Button for NBC Olympics Guide?

2580 Views 22 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  mrdobolina
From the DirecTV site:
"What time will NBC Universal's coverage of men's track and field begin? Which channel is showing soccer, wrestling or gymnastics? Use the Olympics Guide to find answers to schedule questions.^ Simply press the RED button on your remote to call up the MENU. Then highlight and select "Olympics Guide.""

Pressing the red button does nothing for me. I checked with customer service and she tried too and it did nothing for her. She had no explanation. Any idea how this is supposed to work?

The red button is only probably available on the Olympic channels (750-756). Those channels aren't even active yet.

Yes, I noticed this this morning as well. I'm sure once we get to actual content things will start working.

Thats what I was thinking. Would be nice to have it working a little sooner than the day things kick off. Also, I've noticed that tomorrows guide shows 24 hour blocks of "Olympic Coverage" making it difficult to set a recording time unless you set it manually.

I hope that changes too!
Everything seems to be working Channels 750 -756 are working great and the red button menu is now working.

I just tried the red button and it worked for me. It took a few seconds for the menu to come up, but it does work! :)
It appears on the screen on MSNBC but it only works when the red button is actually displayed.
I wish there were PIG when the red button content is on screen.

I just confirmed with D*, button only works on the special 750- Olympic channels (and it does). Also requires functioning OnDemand service.

I don't think it requires On Demand... it works fine on my R15.

I've gone to all of the following channels listed above and the red button does nothing on the channel or in the guide. Just that annoying "bonk" sound. :)

Any ideas?

Ditto -- no workie workie on either of my receivers (HR21, HR20) no matter what channel I'm on (any of the 75X Olympic special channels, or the "regular" NBC* channels like 74, 4, etc.

Wonder why it's working for some folks and not for others....
It works for me but it took about 20 seconds being on the channel before it started working.
Go to your guide and scroll down until you see a golden/red olympic NBC banner that says select to tune. For me its between 355 and 356. Click it.

That gets the red button working for me if it gets stuck in "bonk" noise mode.
TIP: Press GUIDE and then return to LIVE TV to re-enable the RED button if it's not working.

If you happen to hit EXIT while watching one of these interactive channels, you can disable the RED button. To get it back, you can tune away and tune back, but you'd lose the buffer. The alternative is to hit GUIDE then return to live TV, wait 20 seconds, and the RED MENU prompt will return.

A problem I am having is when I turn the receiver off and turn it back on later, and it was parked on the 700 Olympics channels, the video will be blank and no audio. I have to flip the tuner up or down by one channel to get everything working again.

I just tried that and all was well. Maybe NR versus CE? Anyway, don't turn it off. There is no reason to turn the box off unless you are using that to do some switching through a switcher. It really doesn't save any energy as the box just turns off video.
It does have the fewest features of the many interactive apps I've tried, so that may be part of it.

I note it also has GREEN = GEICO ad - the first time I recall seeing a sponsor in the interactive apps.
I can't get the red button to work. Also my guide looks different than it use to with a lot of black instead of blue. also when I go to try to look at picture video and music it says cannot be viewed from a interactive channel no matter what channel I'm on. anyone else seeing this?

not sure everyone has this issue... for those Olympic channels (750+). The caption turns on automatically when I turn to those channels. Even after I turned it off and switch to other non Olympic channels and change back, the caption turns on again. Also, the screen would juggle up and down a bit when first turn to these channels - just the few seconds though.
