Refer a friend question

Back story: Called CSR the other day to get the refer-a-friend offer. Been a customer for about 5 months now (never happier!) Said I would like to take advantage of the refer-a-friend, CSR dude said, sure I can help you with that. Couple of minutes later I gave him the info he needed (friends account # and Phone #). He then tells me that since you have an integrated bill (with DSL internet provider) that he has to transfer me to integrated billing. I said ok not a problem.

Integrated billing guy said, what can I do for you. So I told him what I wanted. He said ok let me take a look at your account. Then, Oh I am sorry sir but since you have integrated billing I can't grant you the refer-a-friend because you get deals the the integrated billing offers (which I don't have any deals!)

So my question is, is he filling me full of it? The first guy said, I have to transfer you but there is not a problem with getting this offer. Now we all know how much some of those CSR's know but should I call back and do a little roulette? I feel I am still elegible for the refer-a-friend. Your thoughts?

I dont see why you would not be. Its still D* no matter what offer you are getting and they offer the refer a friend.
I've seen posts before where if DirecTV is giving you billing credits, that it "doesn't play well" with bundling discounts in integrated billing. Not sure why it would have to be a problem, but apparently it is.

I've been seriously thinking about bundling my phone, internet & DirecTV with Qwest (just to save some money). I currently have Qwest for phone and Comcast for internet. Still just can't pull the trigger. One of the issues I have with it is just this kind of thing - sometimes it can be bad enough dealing with DirecTV over billing issues, but throw "integrated billing" into the mix and my blood pressure goes up just thinking about it. Just doesn't seem worth the $5 discount I'd get for bundling - especially if it means I lose my $10 a month billing credit I'm getting right now from DirecTV. I couldn't care less about "only having one bill to pay". I do it all on-line anyway and don't feel the least bit inconvenienced that I have to do it once for each separate provider.
I just did a refer.. but I thought that I was getting $50.. and not $10 off per month.. almost anyone can get that and more just for calling and asking at least once per year..

I wonder if it was worth the effort..
on refer a friend, QST and VZN accounts are eligible, however you need to call (866) 443-8869 (rather have your friend, who you are referring call the number). Yes it is 5 credits of 10 each, but the advantage is that it does not cost a new agreement for you, or count against your credit limit for your account.

I just called my local Verizon office about bundling DTV with internet & phone. The CSR i spoke with confirmed that bundled savings ($-6 off, in my case) is IN ADDITION too any other discount previously established. So, AAA discount, DTV discount ($-18 off for 12months), referral discounts, etc are all unaffected.

credits don't play well because of something like this:
Bill goes like this
Directv ----> Telco (which has to hold the bill for a month) ---> Customer/ so the credit does not show up when you expect it to. it is late by about a month.
Thanks all!
Ya I was thinking it was smelling fishy. I have tried this number (866) 443-8869 and they just say "to set up new service" and "give this number to a friend and your account # and you will get $50." You then are prompted to get out there and refer a friend, any other questions and to talk to CSR press #.

So that's what I did and obviously you saw the outcome. I guess I will just have to try again and see what happens.
Actually, *you* don’t need to try again! Give your account number and this phone number to your *friend* to try.
This is true. Come to think of it he has had D* for a month longer then me though. I do have another buddy that has had it for about a week so I could go to him.
webby - the refer a friend thing only works when you refer someone who does not yet have service. If they have service already (or, I believe, have already signed up and may be awaiting their installation), it's too late to use them. No referral bonus when you both have service already - no matter for how long.

Actually if they are still waiting to be installed its not to late. I did it. I was told that as long as I had not been installed yet it was okay. I gave the information and I was told that I should see the discount on my 2nd bill. That should be coming in the next week or so. I will update this once I have recieved my bill.

Personally, I think getting $10 off for 5 months for a referral is worth the effort. After 5 months it's the same thing as getting $50.

Yes while I beleived this to be true but I thought I would try it anyways, as some have said, $50 is worth it. It's not a lot but it something. So I thought I would try it. I obviously called and CSR said "oh so you both have had service for a few months." I said yes. He thought it through for a little bit then I said, well he refered me... I wouldn't have come over to D* if he didn't already have it. Then he said ok, but I have to transfer you to "integrated billing"

It has gotten to the point of being not so worth it now though, the more I think about it, don't sweat the small stuff, right.

yeah, he didn't want to tell you you're not eligible so he xfrd you to whoever he could, in this case he saw you had intergrated billing so he saw the opportunity to xfr you there. jluc is correct in that the friend you're referring cannot already have service.
I will be signing up for Direct TV soon and my neighbor has direct TV can he refer me and get a credit. I will having my service activated and installed by a local company and not calling Direct TV directly.
Thanks

you will only get the credit if he/she calls dtv directly, going through a local retailer disqualifies you for the refer a friend
I think the way it's actually supposed to work is that the new customer calls a special Refer-a-Friend number and provides the account number of the current customer doing the referring.

I'm also fairly certain that any number of people will now post (quoting this post) that they did it some other way and it worked just fine. Oh well. ;)

you are 100% correct, this is the way it's supposed to work, and I agree with the 2nd part of your post as well.

actually this is not correct , (no offense curt), the only way to get the credit is by calling dtv refer a friend and signing up directly with dtv, not through qst , vzn, bell south or any other retailer.
