DTV is telling me that I will need to reformat my hard drive due to the following problem.

I have had a HR20-100 since December 2007. When I first started using it, I had duplicate channel listing for my locals whenever there was a SD version and a HD version. I went into the menu and selected "Hide SD duplicates." Problem fixed. Not all of my locals were in HD. Recently I noticed that one of my local channels was no longer showing up in the guide. If I punched in the number on the remote, that channel would be displayed. If I was watching a channel on either side of that one, I could not get to the missing channel by choosing the channel up or channel down button. That particular channel would be skipped.

I found out later that this particular channel had recently been picked up by DTV in the HD version. When I went in and chose the option "Show SD duplicates," that channel became visible again in the guide, but only the SD version, not the HD version. Nor did I have duplicate channel listings in the guide like I once did with the other local channels. Only the HD version is showing. My neighbor is receiving the HD version of the latest local offering while I am only able to see the SD version still in the listing. DTV has asked me to do several red button restarts as well as unplugging the unit without any luck. Their only suggestion is to reformat the hard drive thinking it has become corrupted. Of course this will cause all of my saved recordings to be lost. :( I have also been having problems with the unit locking up and being unresposive until I unplug it from the power source.

Has anyone else come across something like this and found a solution rather than having to reformat? I have no idea after doing it that it will actually fix my problem.

Reformatting the drive won't fix the issue.

First check to make sure your not using a favorites list.

Failing that, do a "Reset Defaults". This will reset set the box and make you re-run your sat setup. Your recordings will be ok. I can't remember though if your series links get wiped out or not though.

Resetting defaults would cause you to lose your series links as well as favorites lists I do believe. But you are on the right track though, rerunning the satellite setup should fix the problem easily without losing any recordings or timers.

MENU>PARENTAL, FAVES & SETUP>SYSTEM SETUP>SAT & ANT>REPEAT SATELLITE SETUP.

All correct settings, including "5 LNB Multisat," should already be highlighted by default.
