Remote Question

I currently have 2 508's and 1 501 that all use the same Plantinum remote. The remotes are getting old and I was looking to replace them but I was curious if the newer remotes that come with the newer 625 work with the 508's and 501's? To add to the confusion it looks like they come in a IR and a UHF and also different version's? I think I have seen a version 5.0, 6.0, and 8.0? Will any of these work with my receivers or should I just stick with the same remote that came with them?

Thanks!

50x receivers use "Old UHF" remotes. The do NOT work with most UHF Pro remotes. 5.x remotes are IR only and would work - but only IR. UHF Pro 6.0 are IR / UHF Pro so they too would work IR (only). 8.0 are UHF Pro only (no IR) and wouldn't do anything for you.

A UHF Pro 6.2 or 6.3 remote WILL generate "Old UHF". Both in Sat mode and in Aux mode so you can use the same remote to control one 50x in Sat mode at address 1 and another in Aux mode at address 2.

You should be able to find Platinum remotes on eBay pretty cheap. 6.2's too. I had two Platinum remotes where the Sat button didn't work any longer and asked DISH to replace them. DISH sent me two UHF Pro 6.2 remotes with a little kit of plastic keys to emulate the remote of any DISH receiver (7x00 Dishplayer excluded). If you aren't having trouble with the device buttons, I have had luck opening them and cleaning them off. When the Sat button quit, I couldn't "clean it" to make it work.
Thanks for the reply. 1 of my remotes is in perfect condition, the other 2 are pretty worn with the numbers rubbing off, etc. and the SAT & TV buttons you have to hold down for 5 seconds before they light. I had found them pretty cheap on ebay like you said but I also saw the newer style remotes too for the same price and figured if they worked I would get some of them. But I think I will just stick with the original style. Thanks for clearing it up!
Dish has a warehouse in El Paso where all lease receivers are returned. It looks like they replace all returned remotes and either throw them out or sell them for dime on the dollar. Most of the volume sellers of DISH remotes are in El Paso with hispanic last names. I've bought twice with mixed results from 2 different sellers. Be sure the seller will stand behind the remotes, though shipping may say just throw it away. From my experience if you need 2 buy 3.
I have see 5 for around $30-35 including shipping which seems to be about the same as 1 anywhere else. I figure out of 5 one or two has to work.
