Remote question

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but last night I set up my HR20 remote for RF. I did this because the way one chair in my living room is positioned, it made it difficult to point the remote directly at the receiver. Now that I changed my remote to rf, it doesn't matter. My question is why would someone want to use IR, when RF makes it much simpler to aim the remote?

Thanks

It's not that people necessarily choose IR over RF. Having the remote capable of doing both keeps the same remote usable with receivers that are not RF-compatible, and some people just do not need the capability.

In my hobby room I watch TV while two feet from the DVR. No need for RF there.

In some environments there is so much stray RF floating around that an RF remote is unusable or erratic.

Many of us control complex home theatre setups and you can't do that with the RF remote.

We use things like the Harmony remote..it controls all functions of the following:

1. Onkyo receiver/amp
2. HDMI switch
3. Subwoofer
4. HR20
5. Oppo HDMI upconvert DVD player
6. Panasonic DVD recorder/Hard disk
7. Sammy HL-R5667W DLP TV

This can't be done with the RF remote that comes with the HR20 (or any other RF remote system that doesn't somehow convert back to IR)...because all the other devices are IR only.

Exactly, the only remote to control HR20 once its set to RF, are the white RF dtv remotes. Universal remotes are useless when it comes to RF only gear.
