I set my HR20 remote to use RF. Works great with the DVR behind a cabinet door. However, when I setup my new SamSung LCD LN-S4695 tv tonight, I could not get any of the remote codes listed for SamSung to work. Is that because my remote is set to RF and the tv needs it to use IR? Not sure if the remote will use RF to talk to the DVR and IR to talk to everything else. Or if it can only use one or the other.

Well, I guess I know the answer to my question. I switched the remote back to IR and was able to find a code for the TV. Guess it's all IR or all RF, but not a combination. Oh well.

As a somewhat unrelated comment, watch the temperature on the HR20 if you're going to bury it in a cabinet. It may not appreciate it.

What remote? My rc34 does IR and RF in combination. TV IR and HR20 RF.

I am using the remote that came with the dvr. Not sure what the rc34 that you are referring to is. is that a 3rd party remote?

Are you sliding the slide switch to tv when you enter the code for the tv?
Yes. The code works if the remote is set to talk to the HR20 using IR. Just doesn't work if the remote was setup to talk to the HR20 over RF.

That works here. I control both my TV and my AV Receiver via IR while the HR20 is in RF mode. I don't have to switch off the "D*" mode with the switch at the top.

You have to be doing something wrong or have a defective remote. Mine works with a combination of both. Toshiba TV in IR, HR20 in RF.

I saw in another thread how to determine the model of your remote. (meaning, look at the top left corner of your remote and read the model number. Doh!)

Anyway, FWIW I have the RC24.

My RC24 and RC32 both do RF for the HR20 and IR for the TV, stereo, and old TiVo.

Something is up.

Ok,

I have 4 H-20-700 receivers all set to RF and 50 inch Samsung DLP's. I have both RC24and RC32RF remotes. I have no problems going between the 4 receivers and 2 TV's all the remote's control the TV's with IR.

You say the remote works in IR and controls both the receiver and TV. But the remote won't work the TV after you program it for RF? You are leaving the slider switch in D when you enter the RF codes?

UPDATE: I tried switching back to RF again, once I had my tv already programmed when it was set to IR mode. That seems to have helped. Now I can at least control the volume but not power or input. I will try some of the other Samsung codes and see if these make any difference. This hasn't been the most user-friendly experience. Never had these problems with other STBs, but I am keeping an open mind.

Theres some extra steps in setting up the remote for HR20. After intialy programing the code for TV, you have to do a couple of more steps for INPUT for TV. Read all the way through the remote setup on screen.
