Removing 72.5 dish

883 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Johnnie5000
DirecTv just turned on HD locals. I have been using a second dish (72.5) to receive locals. Am I supposed to receive free "un-installation" service from DirecTv to remove the 72.5 dish?

I would like to find out people's experience and expectations before calling DirecTv.

I am not handy and hate to fall off from the roof or to have a leaking roof afterward.

Thanks in advance.

If you do it yourself, I suggest leaving the foot in place if possible to avoid needing to patch holes in the roof.

No such thing.

Directv never removes dishes as part of any service. you could contract with a local installer to remove it for you, but directv would not be involved
I guess I have to risk my life to do it myself.

I forgot to ask about the multi-switch. Is it safe to assume it is OK to just disconnect the 72.5 input or do I have to terminate it with a load?

Thanks.

just disconnect it, cover it with a plastic cap if you can, take the dish and recycle it.
GreenDice and brucegrr,

What receivers are you using?

bill
HR-21 700.

I lost two channels when removing the dish. Toledo PBS and a Toledo Christian Station. No biggie on either of them. I went through every channel to make sure there was no other SD channel coming off of 72.5

Thanks for the fast reply... I wondering what my 2 R10's are good for now? HD locals came in yesterday. I want to take down my 72.5 but looks like the R10's won't work with the slimline dish...or at least thats what I think.

I was receiving HD via OTA antenna.

I'm a tech in a 72.5 market. No free removal. They will do it as a "Dish Relocate" with the usual fee. If it's on the roof, have a roofer take it down and patch the holes. If you decide to take it down yourself, go up on the roof with 7/16 and 1/2 socket, pair of wire cutters, and some blackjack type roofing caulk. Cut the cable and take the reflector down first (throwing it off the roof is always fun :D ) then get the foot off and goop up the holes.

Nope, R10's are incompatible with 99/103 locals. You'd have to upgrade to R22's or leave the dish and keep the tivos. And the R22's are hit or miss on the locals. Only half of them actually pick up the locals here. Don't know why.
