I bought a R-22 DVR two weeks ago (wanted it for DoD, media share, etc, (dont care for HD) well it died on me, just wouldnt turn on, anyway i called customer service and they shipped out an R-15 replacement. very dissapointed. is there any way to insure that i get a R-22 replacement if i buy another one and if it should breakdown on me again? I mean I dont want to keep buying one for $100 and extending my contract all the time if thats the only way im going to get a R-22.you would think they would have an even swapout especially if it lists Directv on demand on my account. thanks.

I believe D*’s inability to guarantee any particular model of receiver (other than SD, SD-DVR, HD, HD-DVR) is a huge problem. For those that were swapped from HR20’s to HR21’s, it was an annoyance to have to call and ask for an AM21. Now that they have R22’s and HR22’s with features that can’t be added to older models, they really need to get their act together to make sure they swap apples-to-apples.

i wouldnt think of it breaking down so quickly...the only i would say that you be insured to get an r22 is too buy it at the store again or maybe have it tech delivered...anyone know anything else. now superviosrs do have a special system where they can request a certain receiver but i dont know if you would still get the model you want.

I can tell you that the special request does work. I recently had a R15 die on me and I ended up getting a case manager assigned because the regular CSR could not figure it out and when the case manager said I needed a new receiver I told him I wanted a R22 because I wanted Dod and he said that he would have to email the warehouse directly and make a special request order and two days later fedex brought me a new R22.

I have always requested an exact replacement, or an upgrade, and for it NOT to be refurbished. The reason I ask for it not to be refurbished is because 1 time we got the "New" box delivered, hooked it up and found it to still have another customers stuff STILL on it.(R15) along w/the problems they were having. It had the Refurbished sticker on the bottom. I thought to myself "refurbished my a**". That guy must have been hungover that day and just slapped stickers on them and re-boxed them. I have never had my request denied. Its all in how you ask. I was just upgraded yesterday from an HR20 to an HR22.

I'll bet this was only possible because you were working with a case manager instead of a front-line CSR.
