Reset when accessing timers

695 Views 7 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  TulsaOK
Whenever I attempt to create/delete/edit a timer, my 722 resets. I've done a power cord reset, front panel reset, and a check switch to download new guide (three times). No improvement. I don't know what else to try.
I'm running L6.13.
Can anyone think of anything I might do other than what I've tried thus far? I've done all those things at least five times today.
Thanks.

What happens when you view the timers Tulsa.. THis sure feels like something in the timer table is corrupt. When does the reset actually occur? If you cannot do any timer management the only thing I might suggest is a NVRAM reset, but I would do that as a last step. I would be curious when the reset is happening.

When I view the timers, everything appears to be fine. If I edit/delete a timer, it locks up and eventually reboots after several minutes. When it comes back, the timer I edited/deleted is edited or deleted. When I set up a timer, I get the freeze then a reboot. When it comes back, the timer I set up is there.
I hope that's clear.

A little more information: If I Stop a recording in progress that was a result of a timer, the receiver will reboot.

Even more information: I can create a timer IF the timer doesn't conflict with another one. If there's a conflict the receiver will reboot before I get any messages as to what the conflict is.

NVRAM reset. What are the ramifications when doing that? If Dish ships me a new receiver, I'll have to re-enter all my timers. I have an EHD so I wouldn't lose any recordings. That may be the way to go rather than have Dish ship me someone else's problem.
Below is the link describing how to do it.

As for the ramifications. Been a long time since I personally did it so perhaps someone that has done it recently will chime it. Based on this post you don't clear your timers so the reset might not help here, but given touching a timer seems to result in a reset it might be worth a shot.

You don't loose your content on your drives. You do lose a number of your settings though I am not sure what ones in particular. Not sure about your favorites. Another thing I Would try is erasing all yours times at once, doing a hard reset and then trying to add one back and see if that clears things up. Based on how you are describing this, I sure get the feeling some table is corrupted somewhere.

As for the NV Reset, there is always a chance that something can get messed up though I have not heard of it happening and be sure if you decided to give it a try that you follow step by step carefully.

I actually broke down (not literally) and called Dish Tech Support. I spoke with a very nice man who spoke only English. I told him what steps I had taken prior to calling. He told me that I had done everything that was on his list. He also told me that sometimes these things clear up in a few days. I thought that was kind of a lame answer given I'm talking to tech support and not a CSR. This morning I noticed that about every 15 minutes the receiver would reset. I figured that it had finally died. I did a power cord reset and the rebooting stopped. Then I recorded all my timers (68) in anticipation of deleting them and starting over. I gave it one last shot trying to restore a timer. Apparently, I am able to create/edit/delete/restore timers again. I guess the Tech Support guy was right. I don't understand it, but I'll accept it for now. But, I do have trust issues with my receiver now.
Thanks for your help.
Well glad to hear you are able to manage timers again. I agree. I also would be concerned. 68 timers. I personally am running about 40 and the maximum if I recall is 96. How many timer events are you showing?

Hopefully it does not come back but I would not be suprised if it did. In the back of my mind I am wondering if possible there is a bug that you might have encountered that occurs when having more timer/timer events.

Have you always been around 68 timers or did you add some new timers recently for the new fall season? If so, you might want to do a timer scrub and remove any old timers not in use.

Only thing else I could com up with. Hopefully this issue does not return. If it does, feeback into this thread so we have a history to go on. :D

I'm back up to 75 timers since I schedule baseball and football games out as far as the EPG will take me. I'm showing 282 events.
I'll re-examine my timer list. I have quite a few that have both a sat timer as well as OTA so I'm doubling up on quite a few even though only one fires.
I've usually had quite a few timers and the number I have now isn't significantly different than I've always had. I was thinking that maybe one of the timers that fired yesterday was corrupt and after it fired and the event was deleted it cleared things up. Of course, that's a real SWAG.
