Well, I've upgraded to the HR20 and am pretty pleased with the unit. I also just received the box to ship back my old HR10. The question is: Have any of you been successful in talking D* into letting you keep an HR10 even though it's leased? I don't have much to stand on as I only had the HR10 for 5 months before I replaced it and I got the HR20 for about $60 after discounts and credits. I'd like to keep it if possible but wanted to know if it's worth the call to see if they'll let me.

Thanks,

If you got the HR20 with a big red plastic envelope on the outside, and with return instructions on the inside...well Directv will let you keep the HR10-250, and will bill you $499 for it too!

The ONLY way they would let you keep it is if you keep it active. If the deal you got on the HR20 was made with the stipulation that you would return the HR10, then there may be some financial consequences to keeping it. All you can do is call DirecTv, explain that you would like to keep the HR10-250 as well, and see what they say. Again, that is only if you would be keeping it active (or reactivating it). If you don't plan on using it now, send it back.

I checked my account tonight and it seems I waited too long to ship it back. D* already charged me $470. :eek2: I called and they said once I put it in the mail and phone them with a tracking number they'll credit my account. I just hope they credit the credit card tied to the account and not just my account. I did ask what they planned to do with it and the Installation CSR had no idea but was sure that she couldn't let me keep it.

Oh well.

How long did you wait? I think I had about a week to return my HR10 when I upgraded to the HR20. I just dropped it off at the nearest kinkos and saved my receipt in case the return got lost. Like everyone said, they would only let you keep it if you kept it active on another tv. They gave me the option to return one of my other 2 standard receivers though.

What part of he got charged for NOT RETURNING IT did you not understand? He was to exchange the receiver, not get ANOTHER one. Do you want to pay his fee?:nono2:

This kind of half/half logic makes me grumpy....

Let me clarify my post:

Since the OP posted on 12/28/06 and today is 12/30/06, I'm wanting to know if the HR10 has been returned as of now? He states that he waited too long and implied on 12/28/06 that he is going to send the HR10 back, but he just got the return envelope- when exactly though? That day? A couple days before? Or, a week before? D* doesn't charge you right away and I'm trying to figure out if the upgrade just happened, how can the account be billed so fast? I got my return envelope in 2 days (via Fed Ex) from the time I had the HR20 put in. Hence, why I mentioned that from what I remember, I had up to a week to return mine. The facts presented do not give a clear window of how long this process took, do they?

And, I worded something wrong in my post. I didn't upgrade, I swapped out my HR10 for the HR20.

I apologize if I made anyone feel grumpy. I don't want you to go into the New Year with that feeling bothering you!:eek2:
