About 2.5 years ago I switched from D* to Verizon FIOS and TIVO. I have been thinking of switching back for the past few months and out of the blue I get a "we want you back" flyer from DirecTV with unbelievable rates guaranteed for a year. Now I'm convinced (it was a sign from the great satellite in the sky :lol: )

When last I had DirecTV I had 3 DVR's (an HR20 and a couple HR21's or 22's). My question now is what the heck do I get now (what has changed). I see a new HR34 that looks intriguing. Is that a good way to go? If I get 3 DVRs again, can they still stream to each other like they used to?

Even though I was a customer for 12 years and have only been away for 2.5, I really feel like I'm starting over.

Thoughts and suggestions will be truly appreciated.

HR34 would be the ticket. 5 Tuners. Then add another DVR for the second most used tv, and a couple H25's for any extra rooms you have. Should about duplicate what you had before, with newer and better and faster equipment.

The HR34 is not available in all areas yet because it is so new. It should be getting out more widely soon (this month, I think).

If you have multiple TVs, you're still (at this point in time) going to need some sort of box at each TV.

If you aren't real big on carrying all of your eggs in one basket, I'd recommend a couple of Plus HD DVRs and a Plus HD receiver.

I think the future of the HR34 is going to be told at the upcoming CES by who shows up (or perhaps more importantly, who doesn't) with RVU enabled displays.

Thanks for the replies. I called tonight and DirecTV will be here on Wednesday. I got 3 HD DVRs so my setup will be the same as before. I got them all for free since the sales lady told me D* considers me an "ambassador".

Yes it is, as long as your a new customer. Any new customer can get a hr34 right now. Tivo is the one limited to certain areas.

RVU will not at all decide the future of the hr34. The hr34 will be their go to box no matter what in the long run for many customers. It does everything all their other dvrs do now and more. Even if RVU where to die suddenly, which I don;t see happening, the hr34 will still be the killer dvr. Till Comcast gets their 6 tuner box out, f they ever really do.

Well things aren't always as they seem. Right after I posted here I got my confirmation E-Mail. Let's just say the hardware listed was NOT what we agreed on. After several calls I canceled my appointment and I'm re-re-thinking this once again.

What was listed vs what you had asked for? They don't really list specific hardware, they only list a class of hardware.

seems odd. For the last few years, every time I've placed an order I was transferred from the CSR to another "verification" CSR who went through my order item by item and went over the price of the hardware, install fees, monthly fees and contract commitment (as applicable). Did you go through this verification?

You ordered 3 HD DVR's, what else did you expect to get for free, you can't get everything for free...you think you chose what models to get because I assume you know thats not that way it works
